Accessories for A2

At the risk of getting another sarcastic answer I would be grateful if someone could answer some questions before I actually go online and buy this machine.

1. Is there a car charger for the A2 and if so where do we get them from?

2. Am I able to download and/or purchase tracks from Napster or Tesco or Virgin music sites as I understand maybe incorrectly that the A2 does not recognise protected tracks. I may have misunderstood what this means.

3. If I use the machine purely for movies as I already have an MP3 player, does anyone know roughly how many movies you can download (approx 1.5 hours each at a normal rate?

1) Yes. Cowon US sell one for 9 dollars. I made mine from a PSP

2) Does not reconize protected tracks. Can burn then rip the cd.

3) This is a bit tough. Depens on compression, resolution and video codex used.

For example. Hallelujah Trail 2:3;275. Crunished it down to 480 x
208 { Keept aspect } takes up about 509.7 MB. I usually shoot for 460MB for most movies and 135MB for 1/2 hour shows and 225MB for hour based video. Right now have complete series of GITS and Tench Orginal series. Along with a half dozen of Mizaki films etc, Vampire Prinices Miyu Series and some others. Add about 3 GB for the MP3 have about 8GB free. If you go for a bigger resolution then thing will increase in size.

From your answer I assume I can go into "my music" folder on the PC and burn it from there and then as you say rip it back onto the Jet Audio Software??

As I live in the UK will I be able to order from the cowan america site do you know? Where do you live?

I ussually rip my own dvd's and I rip them at 750mb each.(using fairuse wizard)

So 750mb into 30gb, somewhere around 40 movies, of course thats give or take depending on size and if you have any music on it.

I have about 12 movies and 800 songs right now.

I am surprised that it is only 40 movies as I saw the Archos AV500 30gb player (according to the Archos site) holds 85 movies???

I will only be using it for movies as I have a Creative Zen Touch 40gb for music which has all of my music on it - 1800 tracks at 128 rate and still has over 30gb left!!!

Ha, 85 movies, yeah right. That's about 328MB per movie.

Say your movie is 1.5 hours long, that's a bitrate of 367kbps (assuming 128kbps CBR MP3 audio). I wouldn't watch anything with a bitrate lower than 900-1,000kbps (@480x272 w/192kbps MP3 audio). Oh and 750MB for that same movie with 192kbps MP3 audio is 944kbps.

I'd really think about replacing those 128kbps MP3s with 192kbps MP3 at the very least.

But dont some codecs use fluctuating bitrates? I heard that ogg vorbis does that to save space and I think Xvid might do it to. (its the only way to explain why in some videos the bitrates are different but the quality is the same)

Thanks to all for your help. I will work on the basis of about 40 movies with no music then. Maybe I should get the Archos AV500 100gb (I would but there is no radio!!). I wish Cowon would make a model with a bigger memory. No doubt that has been mentioned many times before.

I have checked out the unbeatable.co.uk site - very good. It did not come up when I did all my googles for any of the models. So I am glad I have found it as they have everything in one place.

About 15 movies the rest series. FIgure three to four series shows is basicaly a movie.
