Hello
lets resurrect this topic a bit. I just got second D2, mostly for new battery as mine was working constanly for last 5 years and it is simply dying.I followed up the unbrick procedure. Here are specs: - D2, trying to put on 2.59 firmware (also tried with 2.57 and 3.590) - D2 is not switching on, however recovery is working (it might be even working permanentyl all the time) - OS used Win 7, DDSE selected from F8 boot menu, double checked admin priviliges 1) D2 reseted 2) turned on to recovery mode START+M 3) connected with PC via USB cable 4) override Win dialog box, applied drivers manually (tcctool drivers of course) 5) placed tcctool folder on C root (C:/tcctool) 6) placed D2N.bin file in main tcctool folder (C:/tcctool/d2n.bin) 7) run cmd 8) go to the destined folder as per instruction 9) run tcctool (tcctool -d cowond2 b2n.bin) 10) result in cmd: tcctool v0.1 - (C) 2007 Dave Chapman This is free software; see the source for copying conditions. There is NO warranty; not even for MERCHANTABILITY or FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE. [INFO] Using device "Cowon D2" [INFO] Searching for TCC device... [INFO] Found TCC device, uploading application. [INFO] Patching application uploaded successfully! 11) as per above, in tcctool, everything looks just fine, however - D2 freezes on starting screen with circle loader, on two dots. Firmware is marked as 0.00 12) above problem was described here http://iaudiophile.net/forums/showpo...1&postcount=30 but solution given is either not working for me or I can not fully understand how this should be applied. There are couple possible reasons: - I am using Win7, instead of XP - I am placing all files in folder placed on root, not on the root itself. Any ideas how to move on with this? Note, I am going to have another try using XP OS and putting files on root drive. But any suggestions will be welcomed. Last edited by Rynvord; 09-26-2012 at 13:18.. |

I double checked and changed OS as well. And voila
it works now. That was best investment made for long time, as I bought this D2 as broken on the Internet (it is brand new, not used heavily, guy who was selling had bricked it, and did not know how to restore it ) Thanks anyway ![]() Edit: and it cost me only 30$ ![]() |

Hello everyone. It's great to find these type of resources exist for cowon users!
My beloved D2 has finally kicked the bucket. I've been trying to revive it for the past few days and was very happy to come across this thread. However, I can't get it to work for me yet. Tcctool seems to be doing what it's supposed to; I get through the whole process and get the "patching application uploaded successfully!" and the d2 turns itself on. Two segments of the little circle light up and then it just hangs there and stays on 0.00 and never gets to a a point where it can be seen by windows. I've probably tried about 10 times, and with 3 different firmware files all with no result. My best guess is that the memory itself is corrupt somehow, so that leads me to a few questions. Is it possible to format the device while it is in recovery mode and then try to load the firmware? any help would be greatly appreciated. |

try using the File in Folder 0 which is a Format File for the D2. if your D2 is the D2+ your out of luck on using the File.

I've got an early d2.
In the firmware download there is only one file in folder0 which is d2n.bin, and that is the file that I've attempted to load using tcctool. As I've said, the tcctool sequence seems to complete successfully and then turns the d2 on but it just gets stuck on the second circle segment reading firmware 0.00 and does not progress beyond that point. Before finding this thread I've been able to get the screen to come on and sometimes even get past the startup screen with a combination of unplugging, plugging back the battery and sequences of menu, power and reset buttons. In one instance I got past the startup screen and the screen turned mostly white. At this point I was able to connect it to the computer which said it was unreadable and asked if I wanted to format the drive. I declined at that point but I think i'd like to give it a try now. Unfortunately, after trying tcctool I don't think I can recreate that condition. It is my understanding that tcctool connects to a bricked d2 by utilizing usb drivers built into the hardware, and is able to connect and upload the first part of the firmware. Since tcctol can communicate with the hardware, my question is if it is possible somehow to format the d2 from within tcctool or some other way while it is in recovery mode and essentially invisible to windows, or if it can be done on any other os for that matter. |

i don't know any other way but to use the File in Folder 0.
so after the first attempt with Uploading the File it's successful and you D2 turns on but hangs and doesn't fully connect to PC? if it does fully connect either... A. copy the File from Folder 0 to D2 ROOT then disconnect then reconnect in Recovery Mode and run the command again B. after first attempt copy all Files from Firmware to ROOT. disconnect then turn on and wait for install to complete

I have managed to make some progress, though it seems my problem is not solved completely. It seems the problems with my player are beyond fixing with a firmware flash but perhaps my experience may help other posters who's players won't make it past the second circle segment on reboot.
What worked for me was cold. After having used tcctool over a dozen times only to get stuck on the load screen after reboot, I put my d2 in a ziplock and stuck it in the freezer for a few minutes. Lo and behold I did the tcctool procedure again and got through the boot process. I loaded the file from folder zero, rebooted, loaded the file from folder 1, rebooted and saw the player recognized firmware 2.59, then got an unreadable prompt with an option to format from windows. I went ahead and tried to format. The progress bar went to just about the end but got an unsuccesful message, unable to format. Tried two more times with same result. Went back to step one with tcctool with no luck, then froze again and did it all over, this time sucessfully loading all stages of the firmware and having a fully functioning player. My problem now is that once I turn it off, it wont turn on again, leading me to believe I have deeper problems with the player. Anyway, if you find yourself stuck at the load screen after implementing tcctool, freeze yo shit, it worked for me, kinda? |

This is a really helpful guide, although I'm having some trouble getting tcctool tp recognise my D2 (earlier version NOT d2+)
I'm using Win7 (64 bit). My D2 is bricked and does not even switch ON unless connected via usb (probable h/w issue?). It's also not going into recovery mode. (screen remains off instead of black/blank. Holding Menu then Power slider to no avail. While connected it is stuck on white screen with an empty progress bar which doesn't go anywhere. (2.59) Running tcctool gives error [ERR[ could not find any USB busses. Anything that can help me? |
