Default my u5 freezes on usb connection

when i plug in my iaudio u5 to my computer and laptop it freezes and it doesnt connect to my computer.
i then have to reset the u5 to make it work again.
this is really frustrating as i cant trasnfer files or firmware to my u5. it does play pretty normally but thats about it.

does anyone have any idea how i can fix this?

That happends to me sometimes, but after reseting it it always works again. Try turing the player on and then connect it to the computer, that might work. I suggest that if you get it connected you should reinstall the firmware.

You should try using tcctool, there are a couple of other threads covering that. I dont think that it is made for the U5, but many people(or atleast 2) have made it work with the U5. Tcctool can connect to the U5 even if the computer cant recognize the device, i used it to (almost)fix my D2 that way. That way you can transfer the firmware file to the U5 and reinstall it.

U5 thread about tcctool and youre problem:
http://iaudiophile.net/forums/showthread.php?t=22682

Instructions on how to use tcctool and fix a D2:
http://iaudiophile.net/forums/showthread.php?t=17854

If you have any problem i may be able to help more on how to use tcctool, but i would recommend that you send a message to asfalt or Basil_g3 since they both have recovered a U5 with the same problem as you.

This guide should worked, it have worked before:

Download and unzip this:
http://download.rockbox.org/utils/tc...tool-win32.zip

Open the tcctool folder and go to the folder conatining tcctool.exe

Read the tcctool-windows.txt and install the U5 this way and keep it connected to the computer.

Put the U5:s firmware file in the same folder ("U5.bin" and "the U5_font.bin").

Start the commandprompt (press "Run" in the start menu and type "cmd" ad hit enter)

Go to the folder conatinint tcctool.exe through the commandpromt(type "cd.." to go up a folder, press "cd foldername" to go to foldername)

Then type "tcctool -d logikdax U5.bin"
(If the player starts itself and reinstalls the firmware youre done, if not, do the next step)
Then type "tcctool -d logikdax U5_font.bin"

Dissconnect the U5 and turn it on.

It would be good if someone could tell if the player starts insalling the firmware after putting the U5.bin on or if you have to pu both .bin files on it (the last two steps)

My problem is that I cant install the drivers in tcctool folder. im using windows 7 and when i try to install the drivers manually using the tcctoo folder, a window appears saying"windows has determined the driver software for your device is up to date"

and because of that, i cant use the tcctool.exe for other levels either....

what can I do??

I'm at my wits end and I need help in the worst way. I've tried doing what Tobbis suggested, but while following the instructions from the txt in the file, I fail at around the third step. When I plug in my U5, I never get a chance to install the driver. Windows (running XP SP3 if that makes a difference) puts it as a USB Mass Storage Device with an exclamation point, and when I try to update the driver to the tcctool one, it says that it does not contain information about my hardware. Searching for the logik dax player says that it cannot find a device.

I'd be more than willing to even format the thing, but it doesn't even show up in windows as a hd! It's not listed in my computer, or in computer management. Please, I desperately need help. I cannot get this working on any machine at all.
