Default Cowon Z2 and Spotify

Hello,

i´m planning to buy me a Cowon Z2 because of Android and the ability to install Spotify.

I have a few questions.

1. Is it possible to install spotify and does it work properly?
2. Can I use the Cowon Sound Settings Jet Effect 5 in the spotify app?
3. Spotify released a new android app with maximum quality, does anyone tested this version on a Z2? and does it sound good with earphones for example like UE10 Triple.Fi?

thank you!

Hi,

I´ve tested it now myself.

1. Yes it is possible and it works, but not well, sometimes it´s crashing without a reason when you search for a artist. But overall it´s ok.

2. Yes because the jet effect Options are in the global android sound options. When you´re in spotify you have to go out to the sound options to change the qualizer, thats not so confortable like in the native music app but its ok.

3. I have recognized three problems in third party apps like spotify. First of all the volume is much lower like in the native music app and second the sound and especially the bass distort when you put the volume high.
And the hardware buttons play/pause next/previous dont work with the spotify app.
I´ve tested one song in both apps in spotify and in the native music app. In the native music app the song is played well, with enough volume and the sund is clear. In the spotify app I have to put the volume much higher and it distort especially in songs with much bass . I have testeted it with my favourite setting "BBE Headphone 1" and UE Triplefi 10.

Now I found out when you play a Song in Spotify and turn additionally the native music app on the sound is clear and volume is much higher. This must be some kind of bug or something.
If Cowon could fix all these problems in the next firmware, this would be the perfect music device for me because the sound in the spotify app is really superb if you turn on the native music app

Cowon tried to force the music app on (in the background) by default in the newest firmware update, so maybe install the newest firmware. You may still need to open the music or Mic up in the background if the problem is still there but if others find this to be a problem, more people need to speak up. Despite what the mods or people think, Cowon often references this site and ABI for people with concerns and sometimes they even post a thread to help us like Jenny. So Cowon obviously looks at these forums to address the concerns from their devoted fans and regular consumers. They have to or they will start to lose money.

Besides the Korea market, they have to try to impress globally as they know there are better electronics companies that produce much better and technology advanced devices at cheaper prices that Cowon knows they can't compete with besides the sound department. So this site and ABI are crucial for them to figure out their mistakes and improve them with their next firmware update and/or device. DFKT mentioned that if the D3 had swapped out the T8900 with a T8800 and more ram was provided, It would have benefited Cowon and guess what- Cowon listened and made the z2 with that exact configuration.

So my point is, don't think this thread will go unnoticed by Cowon, you may think this spotify app concern you have or the party music app music volume/distortion problem may seem to go unnoticed due to the post count. Cowon does look at these threads and more importantly looks at the views as pole count data to see what concerns the Cowon user base the most. Think about it, I'm sure If a mod wanted to they could pull the data to see how many "guests" are checking out a thread. This doesn't mean every problem is going to be fixed but maybe enough to please the majority before moving on to produce a better device under the Cowon name. Food for thought for the few who have concerns and is the major reason that despite my grumblings, I'm sticking with the z2 to see if this gets better via firmware updates. Still love the z2, just some things that concern me rub me the wrong way.

Thank you for your response! I have the newest firmware 1.34 beta. Still same Problem.

I hopy really Cowon will do something, because for me it was the main reason why I have bought the Z2! And I think many other people have the same reason. The Z2 is the only Android MP3 Player with global jet effect settings. This is really a advantage for Cowon, they should do more of this.

I´m know this belongs not to the topic but I miss also the playlist and playlist on the go function in the native music app, like in the J3.

So please Cowon do something!

I´m not 100% sure but I think the Firmware 1.35 from Kizune solves the issue with the volume Can somebody confirm that?

Come on the only thing I´m missing now is the ability to use the hardware buttons

Go into Cowon's default music app and in the settings you'll find hardware keys option or Bluetooth headset button options, just disable and practically any music app you are in will allow you to use the hardware keys on the z2.

Thanks for that advice, I´ve never noticed that before . So now I´m happy. With the firmware 4.35 spotify is very stable, the sound/volume issue is gone and now I can use hardware keys

One more thing... In the Privacy Option ---> Select Region you have to put Global. Otherwise the Volume is too low.
