Per Cowon, battery MUST at 100% and fully charged.

Was the battery @ 100% when upgrading the FW? If it's bricked and it was purchased in the US, you'll need to contact Cowon America aka Jetaudio or Cowon Global if purchased outside the US.

Notes
Warning/Caution
The battery must be fully charged before upgrading firmware.
Do not press the reset button during upgrading.
Backup any important files to your computer before upgrade.
You must upgrade the supplied firmware from COWON SYSTEMS.

Hi Again, fortunately I applied the firmware upgrade correctly, but it would have been easy to make an error with 3 files to copy. I know it's a simple task but one that you just have to get right.

Meanwhile I had noticed that virtually ALL my WAV files were missing album art/tags when synched to my i10. Song titles there but nothing else in 90-95% of cases. I decided to try an experiment with one of my artless/tagless WAV files by converting it to FLAC using Media Monkey. Then I synched it to the i10. Was very pleased to see it there fully tagged with album/artist data and album art. Sounded fine though, although the bitrate has gone down from WAV 1411 to 820...Can now see a good case for converting ALL my WAV files to FLAC now that I know that FLAC actually works fine on the i10 while WAV seems to have trouble with tags.

Very much enjoying music with the i10.

Glad to hear you got it fixed.

And yes if the connection from the computer to the J3 is not the best I can see how one of the 3 files might not copy over correctly, so that would definitely create a problem.

If you're still interested in trying FLAC files (instead of WAV), you might try tagging them as .fla (instead of .flac). . .

I think I might have read somewhere that this works out pretty well with this type of issue, but I'm not completely sure. I don't presently own an i10, but used to own an i9, and am currently in the market for another Cowon player (not sure which one yet, though).

Anyway, it might be worth a try, since WAV files tend to be much larger than FLAC, and therefore eat up more unnecessary space on your PC, not to mention on your i10, as well.

Just an FYI but I developed the same exact problem as the OP sans the FLAC issue. I put my 32GB i10 away for a few months and wouldn't power on but I heard it connect to my Windows 7 PC. I got a "device driver failed to install" balloon message and in device manager it showed "unknown device".

I thought it was bricked. I charged it for 4 hours and no luck. I left it turned off for a day and this morning it turned on with a battery status of 2 bars.

How the battery got so low that it would not power on even after 4 hours of charging baffles me. Once it powered on it's been fine.

Rodster, I believe that most batteries trickle away at a slow pace over large periods of time. I also have heard that it is better for a battery of your type to charge it up every so often. Off subject... is it actually possible to download a file with quality better than CD anywhere. Kinda old here, don't keep up?

Then, alas, a FLAC file loaded and....the i10 is now a brick. The music file details appeared on the screen but the song didn't play and the player is now completely unresponsive both with the touchpad and hold/power button. Can't turn it off or do anything. I was curious to include FLAC files in the music I loaded but this is not a good sign at all.

I guess I can do nothing other than keep it on and the battery will eventually run flat.

Glad I kept all the original packing materials as I have a bad feeling about this piece of equipment....Music sounded great though.

Malachy60 i just bought my cowon i audio 10 32gb I had the same exact problem with flac files... jamming up not responding... the problem was the sample size it was 24 i made it 16 using avs audio converter and now it works perfectly fine enjoying my music in high quality

Hope it helps
