my i10 won't turn on

Hello to all. So, I listened to some music in my car, powered off the i10, went outside for 5 min, got back to my car, wanted to turn it on, and it didn't respond to anything. Battery was completely full. I have it for 4 months, never updated a firmware (using the original 1.03), never dropped it, nothing. Came home, plugged it to wall charger - the screen is black and doesn't respond (usually when I charge it via the wall, I have a writing on the screen saying "charging". Now, nothing). I tried to connect it via the usb port, the screen is black, and i hear the sound of usb device not connected (win 7. never had a problem with connecting before), and I get a balloon with usb not recognized. I tried to soft reset with the volume buttons and then power it on - nothing. I am so sad, don't know what to do, and the sad thing is that I didn't do anything to the device Does anyone have some advice? Thanks

WAI thank you so much!!!! After the 8th time it did the trick. I am afraid it will happen again though, when I am away from the computer, and I will be left with a bricked device for no apparent reason. What is the reason it could have happened?

how was your i10 connected via your CD Player? AUX or USB. to my knowledge some CD Players will copy over a File and sometimes it will mess up the Device and bricking it (Note this only happens via USB so AUX is fine). this happened to my Step-Brothers Sandisk USB Flash Drive. though this is unlikely or may be the case idk. hard to say what happened man. i would upgrade to the latest Firmware though v1.07 Linkhttp://www.cowonglobal.com/zeroboard...ort&category=0

WAI, thanks again for answering. I did upgrade to the latest firmware 1.07 during the recovery process. The i10 was connected through AUX in my car, so I doubt that something was copied over. But, thank you anyway. Your solution did the trick

Right, I figured it was worth posting my experience with this. My i10 got bricked after not having used it for a couple of days. I plugged the USB charger into either the mains or my laptop and got no response from the player, and couldn't turn it on fullstop.

I gave the TCCTOOL program a go, and was able to install the intial stages easily enough. The DOS prompt I ran from the C:\TCCTOOL folder was:

tcctool -d cowons9 iAUDIO10_FW.bin

After this, I was able to turn on the i10 and play music from it. It looked to be fully charged (I had left it on the mains even when it did not respond earlier). I could not, however, connect it to my computer to complete the process. When plugging in the USB, windows would see it; but when I pressed 'charge + sync' on the i10 it would disappear. So there was no way to access the device.

Turns out a solution to this was to change the USB setting on the i10 from MSC to MTP. The i10 could then be seen by windows. I could upload the 1.07 firmware files onto the i10, disconnect it then restart it to install the firmware. Restarting it after installation took a LONG time and I thought it was fucked, but it turned out to be fine. So...

At this point I ran into the documented problem that the 1.07 firmware has when connected by USB to something. When in MTP USB mode the device restarts itself continuously. But changing it back to MSC fixed this and it looks like everything is - finally - working ok now. I guess if you want to use MTP mode you should install the 1.03 firmware available here.

Can I point out how much bullshit this all is? How can I possibly recommend a Cowon product to anyone if 3 or 4 months after purchase it randomly stops working and requires a decent amount of technical ability to fix? When you could walk into an Apple store and walk out with a brand new iPod to replace your old one if it does break? I'll put up with the i10 for now but I'm unlikely to buy anything else, frankly.

Hi folks,
I've been having this issue for quite a long time now and I'm still not able to figure it out. my I10 suddenly turned off while it was connected to a PC, using it as an external device. No mentionned it was impossible for me to turn it on (and it still is).
Anyway, back home I tried to connect my I10 to my PC again but guess what? no recognition at all, whatsoever. I search and find the TccTool process mentionned here

But I'm still unable to turn it on, no matter what! the command lines doens't function and say:

From what you posted it doesn't look like you've passed any commands to the program...

First, were you able to install the tcctool driver software to the device successfully?

Secondly, from the command prompt you should be running the code I wrote in the post immediately above your's:

tcctool -d cowons9 iAUDIO10_FW.bin

which you should run from within the C:\tcctool folder (although it looks like you extracted it to your desktop instead. Might not work?)

Since the i10 isn't recognised by tcctool you have to use cowons9 command, but with the i10 driver you should have downloaded from the Cowon website.

I double checked the presence of the firmware file in the tcctool folder, and there it was!
As for the tcctool driver installation, I had no problem completing it I think! When I check in the device manager, I do have "TCC7901 usb-boot mode" appearing next to the USB symbol (though there's a yellow warning sign saying that Windows cannot recognize or admit the signature of the pilot).
I'm started to think my I10' dead!!!

I also recently had this problem with my i10 and manage to fix it using TCCtool.

I was initially having the same problem as davad ([ERR] Could not open iAUDIO10_FW.bin). The reason this happened was because I didn't disable driver signature enforcement before right clicking and updating the "unknown device", causing "TCC7901 usb-boot mode" to have a yellow warning sign next to it. If you've already done this you can reverse it by right clicking "TCC7901 usb-boot mode" and selecting properties, driver and then uninstall.

As long as you follow every step in the pdf linked by Wai (using command tcctool -d cowons9 iAUDIO10_FW.bin for the i10), it should work!
