Default z2 vs x7 battery life

My X7 is 1 year old.Even though its a HDD player its battery last for more than 1 week, with moderate use.But my Z2 needs to be charged daily.Leave it for 2 to 3 days unattended ,it will be DEAD ,by then.I will blame android, even though its good for customization and apps, operating system is very resource heavy.Even the new generation phones like HTC one X and samsung galaxy s3 struggles when it comes to battery life.In good olden days ,NOKIAs lasted for days on single charge.

Just sharing how bad z2's battery is and how cowon has lost its insight, that's the purpose I intend with the thread.

I just think this topic isn't very discussible because everyone would agree that the Z2's battery life is bad compared to Cowon's non-Android products.

Agreed, I hope the OP understands most of us knows the battery life on the z2 isn't the greatest. You have one problem with your post, you assume like most people that android is the sole issues here for low battery life when really it isn't.

The z2 is advertised for 22 hours right? Well if android is the culprit, how come does the Samsung galaxy players have much better battery life? The 4.0 model can last about 40 hours and the 5.0 can last about 60 - they both use android. So... with this in mind, is the stance still android causing the horrible battery life? I would say no.

Have you noticed the high amounts of heat from the z2? The D3 had the same issue and this can cause damage to the battery. I believe Cowon picked parts that conduct high amounts of heat and that the way the voltage is routed around the device causes the z2 (or D3) to be power hungry to run. The rubberized casing of the z2 doesn't help as it spreads the heat around the device and potentially damage the battery.

The battery itself could also be the cheapest, crappiest battery Cowon has ever put in a device in order to make a good profit value ratio. We know most of the parts in the z2 but the battery is a complete mystery. What if it's a very low mah that caused the least amount of hand burning due to the combination of the other internals and casing.
Because of this, again the battery is getting damaged day after day with us having to charge it daily due to it dying by the end of the day.

Yes Wi-Fi and android play a role in low battery life but only a small one. The device itself is the real reason why it is having low battery life in all honesty...

P.S. It's also not good to compare the z2 with other non Wi-Fi devices in general. Phones either, they generally have crappy battery life in general.

I was pleasantly surprised by the Z2 battery and have no issues with it's performance. As Kizu said we all know that Android devices sucks the life out of batteries.

I got roughly 25 hours of solid audio and video playback on my Z2 so I can't complain. My Android smartphone will barely make it thru 5 hours of usage during a given day.

This actual real concern and unfortunately there is nothing but time that will tell how well the battery will do over time. If the D3 is any yardstick, well the news are not good. My one year old D3 now barely lasts 4 hours with screen off and the battery refuses to charge past 85%.

That does stop me from getting a Z2...

What do you mean?

Does it charge while it is plugged to the wall? Yes it does. It won't say "100 percent", if that's what you're asking.

But it will say "Charged".

when its plugged in the wall and its fully charged it says "charged".
As soon as you take the plug out it says "99%"
I can live with that.

I'm getting about a 10% usage in battery leaving the Z2 idle overnight (aprox 9hrs), with no programs active in task manager. Are you guys getting the same thing?

Default Z2 battery drain when idle

Even I am losing battery on my Z2 when kept idle. Around 30% over night. It is driving me crazy!

For me it depends on which apps are active and running in background:
- When apps (widgets) shown on the front screen run all the time and have high battery usage (newest version of digital clock for example), it costs a few percent, depending on the widget. Closing them one night should show how much. Btw, animated wallpapers (the ones which show animated birds or waterfalls or whatever) are battery life killer.
- When apps running in the background are not manually shut down. I have installed a lot of 3rd party apps and a few skins, which - however - autostart every time. Tried lots of programs to stop that, didn´t worked, so my way is to shutdown all apps which are not urgently needed. Google play store f.e. starts 1-3 times in the first minutes after rebooting, after that it keeps closed. You can shutdown almost all apps (-> taskmanager), they will be automatic restarted as soon as needed, so no problems when shutting them down. Only thing not restarting properly are the widgets on the home screen which sometimes won´t restart, so shutting down the clock means the clock maybe won´t restart or restarts after f.e. 30 minutes.
- When f.e a player like the stock player or VLC stays active (not playing a video, just not exited after the last video) the Z² is almost empty the next morning, even if the screen is off. Seems some apps cause high cpu clock as soon as they are active, best is to go to the homescreen if the player is not needed next few hours.

Last but not least, WLan should be off as soon as you don´t need it, it´s also a battery life killer.

Following these steps should bring your overnight battery usage down to max 10-15%.
