Are there different types of HDMI cable?
I'm using a generic one that works with my phone.

The HDMI Output is not automatic like tablets, Honeycomb, Ice Cream Sandwich, and Jelly Bean. You have to force it on Gingerbread and below through the devices settings menu. Path is like this, Press the z2 menu icon and go to settings. Once in settings, go to display and once in there press output, there you turn on HDMI output and what resolution you want it. For your tv, make sure you are on the channel/output of your HDMI port, the z2 takes a few seconds to pop up.

Thanks,
I tried turning on hdmi in the output setting and tried all the resolution settings. I was definitely on the right channel on the tv. The device thinks its on hdmi output. It has the icon in the status bar but its just not sending the signal through. Maybe the port is broken.

The exact same thing happened to me, it simply doesn't work
HDMI out is turned on in the settings, the little icon appears at the top, but my Viera TV won't recognize it.

Mine worked when I tried a different hdmi cable, i bought an acer one and it worked. There must be differences between cables but i don't know what they are.
