That's wrong. The Nexus S got ICS and its performance is only slightly better than the Z2 (see also).

Cowon would have to gut the z2 though ie the plenue interface/skin would have to be chucked to have ICS or jelly bean at bare minimum. In other words, Cowon would have to provide more ram resources (or lighter Plenue UI) or fall into the D3 category with us getting the short end of the stick with even less ram for our programs to use . In honesty, I could give two flips about ICS or jelly bean really - I'd prefer more bug fixes. No upgrading of android version is going to fix the problems the z2 has...

Heh, good point, I forgot Cowon's custom UI. I guess you're right then.

Why would Cowon need more ram resources? Does Jellybean use more ram?

Both ICS and jellybean use more ram due to the combined phone/Tablet swappable integration system in place. Plus with the additional upgrades of ICS and jellybean, the footprint is much larger than gingerbread or froyo. If Cowon made a light version of the Plenue UI, or ditched it entirely, the upgrade will be chancy but will still work especially for the consumer.

Example: Samsung stated they couldn't upgrade their current older devices to ICS due to hardware and truthfully that was only half right. The ram seemed to be the factor some thought and it was half the problem, the other half was the ram heavy Touchwiz UI on top of gingerbread. They said that they wouldn't toss the UI out to get the upgrade to ICS working well - people thought it was greed of wanting current customers to just go buy new devices, but it was really Samsung's stubburness of not tossing their touchwiz out the window to give more ram resources to ICS. Eventually, someone in Samsung found a way to make the Touchwiz UI smaller in ram consumption (or a lite model), which gave plenty of ram to an ICS upgrade on Samsungs older devices, I'm sure some of you (besides the US) have experienced this upgrade on your Samsung phones. More upgrades to come for Samsung touchwiz devices and devices without a skinned UI will experience an ICS or jellybean upgrade much more easily than others like Cowon...
