Default Android 4.1 has Gapless!

It's being reported all over:

http://www.pocketables.com/2012/06/a...usic-apps.html

Any chance we can get 4.1 onto the z2 and eliminate the volume drop for 3rd party apps (by using standard player)?

There was absolutely zero interest in the Z2 shown on XDA forums, so - no, I don't think we'll ever get Android 4.0 or 4.1 on the Z2, unless Cowon releases an upgrade.

What would happen to the player's hardware if Cowon do release 4.1? I think from 4.+ they added virtual buttons. Wouldn't that just take up screen space?

Good point - yeah, an upgrade to 4.0/4.1 would render the physical buttons useless, unless Cowon hacks Android to not show the virtual menubar (is that even possible?).

Why did google add the virtual menubar? Is menubar on when you use full screen apps: like the video app? That would suck big time.

Just googled a little - according to this site, the virtual menubar (official name: navigation bar) is hidden if the device has a physical navigation bar.

What do you mean there was zero interest? They don't like the device?

Well, I posted a notification here to vote on XDA forums for the Cowon Z2 - ~100 users voted, but the Z2 is still in the second post of the poll thread which is some kind of "why-the-fuck-should-we-support-this-shit" list (sorry, I'm angry because 100 votes is pretty much IMO).

I'm talking about the virtual back-home-menu buttons. I think it could be disabled. Do you think it's a good idea for Cowon to upgrade to 4.1?

This is the music apps being updated, rather than the OS. Poweramp for example has had gapless playback on all versions of android and rockbox is in development (works well on my android devices).
There's no need to wait for Cowon to update, just use a decent music app on your Z2.

I agree, if the big boys like Samsung doesn't have ICS for their Galaxy Players, then I don't expect Cowon to update their devices like the z2 sooner or later if even ever to ICS, let alone jelly bean. The internals of the z2 are just too crappy to even run either anyway.
