It is although I imagine I'm not getting the best out of it as I'm still using my current earphones, Sennheiser CX300. Their good but not good enough to unleash the full potential
The wallet took a bit of a beating buying the J3 and 32GB MicroSD.......some saving to be done now for new ears lol

A few months ago I splurged on a pair of Shure SRH-940 headphones to replace the old giant Sony CD950 I had been using for many years, presumably "happily" with the J3 but really only because of the associated EQ/BBE setup I'd come up with (aka MDWright1032 which I've talked about in the past). Well with the SRH-940, this EQ was unlistenable. Far too bright and harsh, which speaks specifically to the headphones. I had to tone down what I use considerably, with really only a relatively small "boost" in the eventual EQ/BBE I settled on for the new headphones. It's much closer to "flat", but through the SRH940 the music sounds tremendously clear and detailed and undistorted... and enjoyable! Not artificial. No peaks and valleys on frequency response. Far superior to the same music from the CD950's with its far more "active" EQ/BBE setup. ![]() The package includes a second set of velour ear pads, both straight and curled connection cables (both with bayonet locks for insertion into the headphone), and 1/4" screw-on adapter. Plus, there's a very slick hard-shell carrying case. ![]() Wasn't cheap, but it sounds fantastic. And that's what money should buy. |

They'll do for now.....saving for some IEMs round the £100-£150 mark I've done some research for IEMs round the 100-150 mark and think i have it narrowed down to two....Ulitmate Ears 700 & Phonak Audéo PFE 112.....swaying more towards the PFE 112s. Does anyone have any views on either of these?

![]() How does the J3 drive those (or do you use an external amp)? I note they are rated at 42 ohm, but the 100 dB/mW sensitivity seems to me like it might be enough to offset that. I didn't buy the V-Moda's, though (they were sent to me for evaluation). Probably the nicest free headphones I have received for evaluation, but then again I seem to keep being sent mostly the "trendy" types of phones to evaluate. |

However the J3 does need to have its volume up pretty high. Depending on the particular music file being played (I essentially only listen to my 1100 FLAC files, and never to the other 5600 MP3 files in the complete collection, since the FLAC files are by definition my "favorite favorites" whereas the MP3 files are "good stuff, worth having, but second-tier in my mind") the volume setting is typically 35-39. I know, that's high, but it's needed. However coupled with the following "kind of nearly flat" BBE/EQ which is what I now use, the sound from the SRH940's at the 35-39 volume level is fabulous. ================================================ EQ: --------------------- WIDE 135HZ: 3 NORMAL 385: 0 NORMAL 650HZ: 1 NORMAL 2.4KHZ: 2 WIDE 13KHZ: 3 BBE+: ----------------------- BBE: 8 MACH3BASS: 3 3D SURROUND: OFF MP ENHANCE: OFF SE: -------------------------- STEREO ENHANCE: OFF REVERB: OFF ======================================== |

Update - J3 still going strong, no hick-ups, no breakage, no dropping on my part either. Using update 2.29 North America and it works to my knowledge flawlessly. No freezes no crash. I love my j3. as far as the UI goes you get used to it real fast.
My Klipsch ear-buds/iem's still work flawlessly. Awesome sound, just have to keep an eye out for earwax build-up from time to time. Reingke Case by Rearth still pliable and feels awesome. No tears yet and i take it off every week to polish the j3 up. Bought the Rearth clear film cut to the exact size of the j3. This film is awesome and dosent smudge as much as not having one on. I would say its a 50% clearer less prone to fingerprint solution. Makes a big diference. One thing i dont like is those 3 style menus. Why not just one and be done with it! |

I don't use all 3... Pick one and run with it indefinitely. Everyone has different tastes.

As far as I know, that's the only UI that shows the file counts for each category - that's what I use it for. |

I think those uci's were meant as examples, just basic systems to display features. If it were developed for the j3 rather than adapted i believe they would have constructed something much more impressive, they are too similar in looks design and function to the $20 korean players you can pick up.
Proper uci development has been left to the users, proper usage is only just being exposed by devs like kizune. Ive never used the defaults for more than the first day of my s9. |

Give Kizunes UCIs a go. I'm using his Sense, Leaf & Lynx (Music, Browser & Menu) UCIs and they are fantastic. The music one can be quite confusing at first and not best suited if you like a simple music UCI but once you get used to it I doubt you'll go back to the factory one......I won't be anyhow lol

Where did you buy all your accessories?
You should look at the VSONIC Gr07 - a MKII coming in July. Nice earbuds. ![]() |
