Default Best Method to Burn-In (Break-In) IEMs?

Hey guys,

I recently purchased a SoundMagic PL30 and will purchase a Klipsch Image S4 soon to replace my busted Creative Ep630s.

I was wondering what technique you guys use to burn-in your IEMs fresh out of the box. I know there are different ways of "burning in," but I would like some tried and tested suggestions as this is the first time I'll be conducting these with my cans.

While I'm open to suggestions, I have actually tried the following methods:

1. Continuously play the same looped audio file from the JLab Audio Site.

2. Download all the files from the Burn-In Wave Website and create a playlist that repeats.

My playlist is as follows:
1. All noise tracks
2. 30 Second Rest (Silence)
3. All the Sweep Files
4. 30 Second Rest (Silence)
5. All independent low frequency waves
6. 30 Second Rest (Silence)
7. Sound Channels Mix
8. Heavy Drum
9. Various test sounds (Shower, car, church walking, and storm)
10. 1 Hour Rest (Silence)
-Repeat everything for approximately 6-7 hours (including the 1 hour rests)

Please advise me whether these methods are appropriate for burning in and if my test times are proper. I wouldn't want to destroy my drivers, but would like to expedite the process of getting optimum sound from my cans.

Thanks for any replies!

cant say for iem's as such but with speakers ive always taken a well balanced track like something from the orb and played it on loop, slowly building up the volume over many hours, always leaving the bass pretty low until after the initial burn in, then repeating the process adjusting the bass upwards.

learnt that after having a friend blow up my jamo's years ago with bass heavy happy hardcore, all exited by my new speakers, there was smoke coming outa the drivers n allsorts.

Not that it matters much, but I returned my Klipsch S4's after 1 day. They sounded like you were playing music in a plastic tube. Maybe b/c the nozzle is so dang tiny. I thought the VModa Remix Mobile Metal to be much better, though I returned them after 2 days. I sold my MD Tributes too b/c of harshness. I'm going to try the Turbine line now.

had the v-moda vibes once, bloody awfull, and one side stopped working after a couple of weeks of caring usage.
they offered a replacement but i really couldnt be bothered.
wouldnt mind trying the turbines but its a lot to pay on the offchance i wont like em, havent seen enough balanced reviews yet.

i like thse u10's but having a bit of trouble balancing the sound right, will get there tho.
was caught between the u10's and the ie8s, still bugs me that the ie8's might be better

http://www.burninwave.com/generator_dl.htm

This is what I use. Burn in with pink/white/brown noise is more efficient than actual music. I'd give them at least about 100 hrs through the generator alternating between pink and white noise.

Oh yeah, skip the s4's and get yourself some silver bullets. http://www.bugdenaudio.com/store/fis...er-bullet.html when they're in stock of course

Why not just listen to them while they burn in, and enjoy the change in the sq. That's how I do it now,... I used to just take my Cowon D2 and play music through them for a few days,...I guess 3-4. Now, I just listen & enjoy!!!

Because that takes too long at depending on how much you listen, you may never break them in. Also, over time your headphones will wear out. You might as well get your money's worth as long as possible

Here's the same generator. It's been moved to cnet now

http://download.cnet.com/BurninwaveG...-10711592.html

I mix up white and pink noise when I burn my headphones in. You can also play music out of them and stick them in a drawer until your player dies and just keep repeated.

You could also do a mixture of both

That's BS. Listening doesn't take too long, and it won't wear out your headphones. That's just a lazy person's way to say that want it all & they want it NOW.

Lol!!! Your headphones will wear out!!! I guess you bought them from a $.99 discount store then,...

If you prefer to use pink/white noise, say it. Don't be ridiculous and make preposterous excuses.

+1, I agree with your method and BA's do not need it as they won't change. IMHO burning in any headphone is a waste of time and you might just miss an enjoyable change along the way.

A large component of "breaking in" is most likely just getting used to the sound. Calibrate the brain. That would suggest that it is a good idea to actually listen to the headphones as much as possible while they break in, most likely that will speed up any burn in method significantly.

I agree Adobe,... Brain burn-in is one of the most important things most overlook. WalkGood & dfkt taught me that long ago,...an often neglected truth.
