Hi all, sorry for joining to ask for help, but I tried Cowon Q&A list and have received nothing
Basically, I turned off my D3 in the normal manner and when I went to turn it on again it wouldn't ![]() It seems that when it's powered up (it's gets as far as the [loading] screen) no button +/- Pause/play FWD responds, and the only way to get it turned off is the reset button. However, it will restart again to the [loading] stage. I've tried connecting to the PC, but the PC doesn't see it I've tried charging up for a full day I've tried letting it drain right down... but so far nothing ![]() ..so I'm back with my S9. not the end of the world, but a bit of a pain losing the D3 for apparently no reason? Has anybody else has similar problems, or got any tips? It has the latest EU firmware, and a few apps (angry birds etc) but they've been on for months without issue many thanks in anticipation ![]() |

^ Please tell me this isn't a wide spread issue. I can live with the D3 limitations if it will have the otherwise good longevity of my past cowon products.
Anyone got any input on the long term health of the D3? e.g. Anyone know of any parts inside the chassis which would indicate that the above experiences are likely within the first 12-18months of ownership? Thanks Last edited by sonic; 02-13-2012 at 10:23.. |

As of yesterday no
it just keeps hopping between the 'plenue' and '[loading]' screens and it seems there is nothing i can do about it? Main problem being the only button which responds to power down is the reset button and whilst the on/off button works, it's only to power up again won't be going down the Z2 route at this rate btw - i guess mine's about 13months old (am going to check to be sure) Last edited by CashCowon; 02-13-2012 at 11:35.. |

Oh well, it's a beta (wait, alpha is more appropriate) product after all...

well, it appears i got it in late March, so they can have mine back. Best £469.00 I ever spent. All those hours locking it, unlocking it, upgrading it, working around it, swearing at it, sulking at it, but on the odd occasion when it worked ![]() |

That said, look into the android development with ICS (without or without customs roms) for outputting digital audio via mini usb. Once that's enabled you're no longer tied to Cowon just for their Wolfson DAC chip since there's plenty of better portable DAC/Amp combo devices which can be used with some other android based pmp or even phone/small tablet. Also, if you re-rip your cds as flacs then I don't really see any need for using cowon's stereo or MP enhance. So it just comes down to being ok with losing the BBE function of Cowon products. edit: had a quick look online and can't see anything about a D3 recall. Last edited by sonic; 02-13-2012 at 16:43.. |

And yeah, as a two-time Cowon buyer (S9 & D3), they pretty much lost me as a customer after this D3 expereience. Last edited by jakeroux; 02-13-2012 at 16:03.. |

Edit: Thanks for mentioning the info on the iOS BBE app. I remember reading about it and seeing various requests by consumers to get an android alternative released too. Hopefully BBE Labs are looking into this. Edit2: Just wanted to say I'm not particularly hostile towards Cowon, just surprised and disappointed. They made various technical decisions with the D3. Some were great (Droid, D3 amoled, spdif and HDMI out) whilst others, despite being poor, I can deal with (underpowered hardware and other avoidable flaws = using the D3 primarily as a transportable rather than portable rig, lots of wasted time, occasional frustration etc). However I can't afford to have an unreliable product which won't at least see 18 months of service as a DAP so hopefully there will be a low failure rate for the D3. This thread's failure reports isn't promising but it might be isolated unfortunate cases and I feel for you. Hopefully your finances aren't as dire as mine or you can find a workaround. I know UK has engineers at Advanced MP3 players who've visited Cowon for training, maybe get in touch with them or look into a local similar alternative if elsewhere. Best of luck Last edited by sonic; 02-13-2012 at 17:08.. |

@ Sonic, yes mate. a birthday present from the wife via. Amazon (I think new is still £400+ there). She knew I loved my S9, but it had stopped working. Later to start up again.
Interesting I looked at the 'advanced player' site and D3 is the only one missing, so I guess that Cowon have slowly removed it from sale. I want my replacement to be a Z2, but unlike the D3, I'm not going to rush in. I want something fit for purpose, not a very expensive kit with downloadable add-ons to get it doing basic things... ![]() also, gonna have a try at something like this thread. Seems I have nothing to lose at this juncture http://www.iaudiophile.net/forums/sh...ad.php?t=37135 |

I doubt that is possible if the player refuses to start.

I was able to get mine to the recovery console by holding the pause/play button during boot, which got me to an exclamation point, and i hit the Home key. I selected the last option which was something like re-install OS, and it didn't work. I also tried updating from the SD card. It crashes at the Loading screen.

It's different. It's doesn't load android. x.53 firmware is the gingerbeard upgrade. It's include the USB driver to detect the D3 in low level firmware update mode, wipe everything and reinstalls Android. There's another way to do it without deleting everything. The instructions is on this forum somewhere by roebeet.
