How to check if my battery of A3 is working or not

I have cowon A3 with broken screen which I have been using as a storage device instead. However I find that I need to plug it into the power socket to have it running, since it hardly seems to run without the power. Would the battery have gone bad? How do I determing if the battery is gone dead?
I mean I hardly get 5-10 minutes of backup even after charging for sometime.

Also is there any good option available to replace the LCD. I see some members here discussing about some Samsung LCD.
