Just play some music!

Being more serious, I would suggest you to read the stieckies in the Cowon D2 forum and subforums...there's plenty of useful information there.

The link to the Quick Note note pad is outdated, does anyone know where can I get the file? I went to Cassini's new website (cassinidesign.su) but couldn't find it.

Never had a Db-corruption with 30GBs of mp3s added in one go to SDHC.

Agree to using Panny formatter & using seperate reader[Me used Micromate].

^If viable to you, regularly charge it[like overnight]. Lithium batteries like this. When it is fully-charged, it drops to a drip-charge.

Thumb Up Like the formatting idea

Vampire666,

I understand that it is not necessary to format using the Panasonic/SD association selected formatting software. You can get it on the official SD Association site as well.

However, I think it is the definate way to go !! Nothing allows FLASH to perform better than a format with the Panasonic software.

Also, just like any type of digital storage, after some usage, deleting and adding, performance can slow down. I will re-format my SDHC cards as well as my D2 every so often, then reload the data and I always see a performance boost. I also don't want to wait for problems to occur.

In my opinion it is wasting too much time. Database corruption can happen when loading one file or a hundred.

Thanks to all -- just got a D2+ 16gb today, and this is very helpful in trying to get off on the right foot. In trying to boil down all the info, I am left with these confusions:

Formatting SD card: The link to the Panasonic formatter now leads you through to Windows and the formatter (at least for Windows7) is a Microsoft plug-in. My assumption is that, since it starts off from that Panasonic site, that Microsoft has now adopted the Panny formatter as its own, and that it will do an appropriate job of formatting. Am I correct in this assumption?

Updating firmware: My D2+ came with 2.11. There's seems to be a lot of debate on whether any of the subsequent FW versions are really an improvement. What is the consensus on whether updating the FW is worth doing?

FLAC bit rates and extensions: So I read a post here somewhere that FLAC can create files that are unreadable, and that Monkey's should be use because it will always encode in the right bit rate. Also something about the extension having to be .fla as opposed to .flac or it can't be read. What's the story here.

I updated the Panasonic information and link.

( SD Formatter 2.0 -- Apr. 2008 is confirmed to work. Formatter 3.0 is for newer formats that the D2 and D2+ do not support anyway. Cowon supports SDHC cards with FAT32 format for these devices.)
Avoiding special characters has allowed me to transfer as much music as I like in one copy session.

Side Note:
This has cut down on the issue of the ID3 tag database corruption for me.
I have also noticed that having the "&" character in my filenames or tags causes my D2 no end of grief. I removed the character, and all is well. (ID3 V1 tags only on my files, Firmware 2.54) I have also had issues with the [ and ] characters.
I will try the new Windows formatter when I get a chance, and post my results.

Enjoy your D2/D2+. I have really enjoyed mine.

Quick question (not sure which thread to post this), but can a D2+ cable be used with an S9 and vice versa?
