Default S9 just died on me >.< (I've read prior posts)

So, my S9 just died on me - here's the background.

Short simple questions I can answer-
  • I always properly eject it before I unplug the usb
  • I had the most recent firmware
  • I use Mac OS 10.4.11.

It's worked fine ever since I bought it in July - never had an issue, firmware updates worked great. Typical Cowon quality, loved the screen, and everything was going fine.

Just tonight, I spent about twenty minutes uploading my photo's onto my S9, and I was doing it about one folder at a time, roughly 700mb per folder. I finish uploading my files, and I check my S9 to see how much free space I have left. Prior to uploading my last picture album, I had roughly over 5gb left. After my final album was uploaded, I check, and lo-and-behold, it shows 30.46 gb free - I thought that maybe there was something fishy, and figured I would just eject and reset it. I properly eject it, and made 100% sure that it was ejected before unplugging the usb.

It's never turned on since - I've tried resetting it, using paperclips, a safety pin, bic mechanical pencil, held it in for five seconds - you name it, I've just about tried it. Still no screen power-on.

Any suggestions? I'm open to just about anything -

does your Mac recognize it at all when you plug it in via USB?

No, my mac doesn't recognize it at all when it is plugged in. Nothing shows up as a new usb device, or on my S9 screen.

Know anyone with a windows box?

Try that and see what happens...If it still is not seen then I would consider getting a RMA and returning it...

I find my S9 doesn't start up sometimes. You have to press the reset button at the back. Then it'll switch on. Anyone have a similar issue? Any work around?

I just tried to get my S9 going on a Vista OS system, and Vista could not even recognize what the USB device was to install the drivers...
It's looking like I'll have to send it back -
If anyone else has any suggestions aside from those that have been offered, please let me know -

I know it's not what you want to hear, but if neither a Windows or an OSX box is even recognizing it as a drive, you're going to have to RMA it at this point.

when you get it back, consider formatting it on your Mac before you load it with any content - and have a good look around the "My-Mac-Fucked-Up-My-S9" thread as Don't Panic suggests, too

I hate hearing these stories, they seem so random - I go back and forth between my home PC and my work Mac all the time with no problem!

I'm sending it away for my RMA tomorrow - it took a day or two to register my RMA with Cowon, but so far, they've been really good at responding, so I'm hopefull that it will be a quick turnaround..
I agree on the randomness of what happened - from what I'd read on the "my mac fucked up my s9" thread, I'm not the only one, but my situation still seemed a little bizarre..
I'm going to format it first next time - thanks for the suggestions!
