Default Power button/hold switch problems

Recently my D2's power switch has been very finicky. The hold setting would flash on and off all the time, even with the switch in the middle setting, and I wouldn't be able to turn it off by the power switch. I was having to use the reset button just to switch it off.

For anyone having this problem, and with a D2 that is out of warranty, this is how I fixed it:

Open up the D2 and carefully disconnect the battery plug. Just pull it out very gently.

Take the two screws out on the left side of the circuit board and pop out the black frame on the front of the D2 holding the lcd in.

Carefully take the board and lcd out of the frame through the front and watch that the switch doesn't get caught or broken.

The switch is held in by a metal tab that has an indent which gives the switch that little resistance when it's in hold mode. If your switch is loose, press that part in a bit.

Pop the metal tab out carefully and take the switch out. Clean the bottom of the switch contact with some alcohol, and be careful not to bent it or the spring. Clean the contact/switch seat with alcohol and remove any dirt that's in there. I did it with a piece of tissue paper soaked in alcohol and a small screwdriver to push the paper around in there.

Put everything back together carefully, and your switch should be good as new!

Nice one! I was wondering where I would find a replacement switch but probably this would work. Mine is not broken yet but it is going...

Default RE: Power button/hold switch problems

Thanks for making this guide zxcv743. Before cleaning the switch contacts and base, I could hardly turn my D2 on or off, and the lock icon would flash like mad when the switch was positioned in the centre. Now my power button works like new after following your guide verbatim!

Cheers.

I am having this problem with a d2+ that is still in warranty. I sent it to them and they had it and said they could not replicate the problem? Now it is back after only one week back from cowon

Can anyone tell how to open up the D2 ?
It's probably easy but I don't want to damage the D2.
Thanks.
