This thread is now obsolete. Check here for a newer version
![]() Aero Ultimate is a User Creative Interface for the Cowon S9 and allows the user to customize the mainmenu however he wants. The Features ![]() You are able to customize the interface however you want. There are lots of icons and widgets (they are called 'desklets' altogether) available to use, and you can add them using the 'Desktop Editor'. Available icons: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Available widgets: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() The analog clock widget: The analog clock widget shows the current time. Tap the clock and there will be shown a button. Tap the button and you can switch between 5 different skins. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Another tap on the clock hides the button again. The battery status widget: The battery status widget indicates the current battery level of the player. There are 6 states: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() The brightness widget: With the brightness control widget can you set the current brightness level of the screen. There are 6 levels you can set: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() The widget shows always the current brightness level. If you disabled the option that the brightness widget shows a label the widget looks like this: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() The bluetooth control widget: The bluetooth control widget allows you to enable or disable the bluetooth widget of the S9 directly on the mainmenu without the circumstance that you have to navigate through the options screen. If bluetooth is disabled, you will see this state of the widget: ![]() After tapping on it, you will see first this state (could take a few seconds)... ![]() ...and then this: ![]() After tapping on the widget in 'bluetooth on' state, it's almost reversed, but the second state is skipped. The calendar widget: The calendar widget shows all days the current month has, like a wall calendar does. The current day is orange. ![]() The mode info widget: The mode info widget shows the title, artist and, if available, the album cover of the currently playing song (music mode) or the currently active frequency (radio mode). Music part:With album cover: ![]() Without album cover: ![]() Radio part: ![]() Also, this widget allows you to switch between the music mode and radio mode quickly. Tap the middle of it and a button appears. Just tap it and the mode is switched. You can hide the button by tapping the widget somewhere else. The mute control widget: With the mute control widget can you turn on and of the volume instantly. There are two states: ![]() ![]() The widget always shows the currently used state. If mute is inactive, it also shows the current volume. Note: The widget works for the mainmenu only. If mute is active and you exit the mainmenu, the volume will be reseted. The slideshow widget: The picture preview widget shows any picture. When you tap it, three controls will be shown. Two arrows and in the middle either a play or a pause button. With the arrows can you change the picture. With the play button can you start a slideshow and with the pause button can you pause the slideshow. One more tap on the widget hides the buttons. Without the buttons visible: ![]() With the buttons: ![]() The world clock widget: The world clock can show up to three different times zones. You can set the world clock in a mode where all clocks are handled as one widget or you can set it that every clock is handled as separate widget. You can read more about that in the user's guide. Either world clock widget in standard mode with only one clock enabled or a separate world clock: ![]() World clock widget in standard mode with two clocks enabled: ![]() The quick link widgets (includes these widgets: lock, shutdown, travel mode): ![]() ![]() ![]() The lock widget opens the lock screen. The shutdown widget either shuts the S9 down or set it in sleep mode (you can set this in the options). The travel mode widget starts the Travel Mode. The mini widgets (includes these widgets: mini clock, mini calendar): ![]() ![]() These widgets are only as small as a normal icon, but they both show date (mini calendar) and time (mini clock). The hold mode widget: With this widget you can set the current hold mode of the hard power switch. ![]() ![]() The playback speed widget: With this widget you can set the current playback speed from 50% to 150%. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Of course you don't have to tap the icon all the time to get the speed you want. Just tap it one time and a popup appears where you can set the speed directly. Sleep timer widget: With this widget you can activate or inactivate the sleep timer (from 10 minutes to 120 minutes or off). ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() You don't have to tap the widget all the time to get the time you want. Just tap it one time and you can set the time directly in a popup. Post-It widget: This widget shows any text written in the typist. ![]() ![]() You can show and hide the navigation controls by tapping the widget in the center. With the arrows you can change the currently shown text and with the edit button you can start typist. ![]() You haven't only one desktop you can customize, you have four. You can easily move icons from one desktop to another and it's just as simple to switch between them. ![]() You can create your own icons using the easy-to-use custom icons manager. Up to 270 icons are possible! ![]() The interface is very fast and responsive, and the animations are very smooth, thanks to best optimization methods and clear source code. ![]() Big touch areas and simple gestures. To switch between the desktops you just need to swipe left or right. It's the same with other things like the toolbar at the bottom etc. Also, you can start a simplified interface which is especially created for the usage while traveling. You can read more about that in the user's guide. ![]() This UCI is very secure since it allows you to lock the whole interface - if you want with password protection. Summarized: - Very customizable interface with 15 icons, 17 widgets and the ability to create up to 270 own icons. - 4 desktops you can customize however you want. - Easy gestures and big touch areas make it easy to use this interface. - High security thanks to lock screen and password protection. ![]() Note: The screenshots are shot on the computer, so some functions didn't work correctly.

User's guide
How to install After you downloaded the archive (download link is at the end of this post) extract the content into the X:\System\Flash UI\ folder (X is the S9's drive letter). Then rename the file mainmenuN.swf to mainmenu1.swf, mainmenu2.swf or mainmenu3.swf. That's all. The desktop ![]() The first time you use the UCI, you will see a screen like this. 1. This is the desktop area, where you can place icons and in future releases widgets. In general they are called desklets. You can switch the desktop by swiping to the left/right, or, if this feature is enabled, by shaking the S9 (4, 2nd button). 2. This is the toolbar. Normally you can see a clock, but you can change it by swiping to the left/right. Swiping to the right opens the quick music control panel (3), where you can play/pause, rew, ff. Swiping to the left opens the desktop control panel (4), where you can shut off your S9 (1st button), switch on or off the shaking feature (2nd button) and switch the UCI (3rd button). One more swiping to the left shows the options button (1st), the button which opens the desktop editor (2nd) and the button for the new Car Mode feature (3rd) (11). ![]() You can also hide the toolbar, just swipe down, and it disappears. Instead of that there will be shown an indicator about the currently shown desktop (5). ![]() Swipe down one more time to make the QuickAccess panel [screenshot] visible. Swiping up hides the panel. If the QuickAccess panel is invisible, swiping up make the toolbar appear again. You can also show the QuickAccess menu by swiping up while the toolbar is visible (and doesn't show the music player). Swiping down makes the QuickAccess panel disappear. You can also make a volume panel visible (18). Just swipe up while the toolbar is visible and it shows the quick music control panel. To in- or decrease the volume, swipe the volume panel up or down. You can hide the volume panel by swiping down (make sure that your gesture started with a tap on the wallpaper, not on the volume panel!). ![]() The Car Mode Since v4.27 Aero Ultimate has a Car Mode. The Car mode is a simplified interface with big buttons and enlarged touch areas makes it easier to use the S9 while driving or example. To activate the Car Mode, just press the Car Mode button (11, 3rd button). ![]() That's Aero Ultimate in Car Mode. At the top there's an instant shutdown button, below you see the current battery status and the volume. As you can see, the buttons are very big and easy to tap. The button down to the right is a widget. It switches the current S9 mode from music to radio and vice versa. The toolbar works as always, but you can't enter the fourth tool panel with the 'edit desktop' button etc. Also, the 'shaking on/off' button is replaced with an 'exit car mode' button. And of course there are other buttons as well. Just swipe to switch to the next/previous page. How to edit the desktop ![]() Don't worry if you see no icons. You just haven't icons placed at the desktop or you use this UCI the first time. 6. This is the grid. If it is enabled, icons snap to the grid so that you can place them easier on the desktop. You can control the grid with the 2nd button at the toolbar (8). You can choose between grid 1 (small), grid 2 (large) and no grid (snap to grid disabled). 7. This bar is important for moving icons from one desktop to another or deleting them. Dropping an icon over the left/right arrow moves the icon to the previous/next desktop. Dropping it over the 'X' removes the icon. 8. This is the toolbar. The 1st button exits the desktop editor. The second one controls the grid (more about that: 6.). The last icon opens the desklets collection (more about that now). ![]() This is the desklets collection, where you can add desklets to the current desktop. There are also all widgets and your custom icons listed. 9. Tapping the left/right arrow changes the currently shown page of icons. Tapping the 'X' exits the desklets collection. 10. These are the icons you can place at the current desktop. Icons already used aren't shown there. You can add an icon by tapping it. It will disappear from the desklets collection and will appear at the desktop. Note: You can use the swiping gesture to switch between the desktops also a the desktop editor and while the desklets collection is shown. About the analog clock widget The analog clock is a bit special, because you can change its skin without the desktop editor being enabled. I explain you now how to do this. ![]() 19 is the analog clock with its standard skin activated. Just tap the analog clock widget... ![]() ...and one new button appears. The button changes the skin of the analog clock. There are 5 skins available. Note: If the desktop editor is enabled the button won't appear. You can hide the button by tapping the clock again. Lock screens Since the latest v4.10 Aero Ultimate supports lock screens and password protection. You can lock your player by tapping the shutdown button and in the new pop-up the lock icon. You can define a password and which lock screen you want to use in the settings screen. ![]() The are options for the Icon Manager, the World Clock, the lock screen and misc settings (in misc settings you can set the icon pack you want to use and some other things). Tap 'Lock Screen configuration' to get this screen: ![]() With the option 'Run on startup' can you define whether you want a lock screen to be shown on startup or not. With the option 'Unlock method: x' can you set the lock screen you want to use. At the moment there are four. The third option allows you to activate or inactivate password protection and you can set your password there. You can use a numeric password only. And if the last options 'Lock toolbar' and 'Lock phys. buttons' are enabled, you can't switch to the music part of the toolbar ('Lock toolbar: Yes') and you can't use the physical buttons anymore ('Lock phys. buttons: Yes') when the S9 is locked. The lock screens: ![]() About the first lock screen: The first lock screen is really special. It allows you to set the order in which you have to tap the dots. It's very similar to the Android G1's lock screen, the only difference is that you have to tap the dots instead of drawing a pattern. That means: Tap the dots in the right order. When you are finished, tap one of the active (= blue dots) to confirm your tap order. If it's incorrect, all dots become red. If it's correct, your player is unlocked, or, if you also have the password protection enabled, the password prompt appears. You can set the tap order by tapping 'Set' next to the text 'tap 9 dots'. If you don't see 'Set', make sure that the tap-9-dots lock screen is active. ![]() If you want to reset the order, just enable and disable this feature by tapping the text next to 'Enable tap order:'. If you have this feature disabled, you just have to tap all dots to unlock your S9. About the world clock widget The world clock widget is a really special widget as well. In the settings screen tap 'World Clock settings'. ![]() Now you should see this screen. The first option 'Every clock is separate widget' controls whether the clocks are one widget or whether every clock is a separate widget. The second option 'UTC time offset' is the UTC time offset of your location. You can find more information about that in the help screen (the button near the right bottom edge). The option 'Time zone' for every clock means the UTC time offset of the location you want to show the current time. If you want for example the time of your location, enter for 'UTC time offset' and 'Time zone' the same value. For 'Location' can you set the name of the location you want to show its time. Of course you need to enable every clock to make them appear in the mainmenu. Make one clock enabled or disabled resets always the world clock's position. You have to re-add it using the desklets collection in the desktop editor. The Custom Icons Manager First you have to open the options (11). Tap in the settings screen 'Custom Icons Manager'. ![]() Now you can see this screen. Here you can manage so called "icon Packs". An Icon Pack is a collection of up to 30 icons. You can activate an Icon Pack by tapping it one time. To edit an Icon Pack, activate it first and then tap it again to get into the Icon Pack Editor. ![]() Now you should see this screen. 12. With the arrows can you switch between the pages. You have three pages, on every page 10 items.At the top right corner there is an indicator. It shows which page is currently open. The X exits this screen. 13. If you haven't selected any item, only the add button is active. Tap it, and a new item will be created. Remove is only active if you have an item selected. It deletes the current item. Edit opens the item editor. 14. The list where you can see all your icons. Okay, you can just see their labels, but you don't need more. If you tapped 'edit' you will see this screen: ![]() 16. That's the preview icon. If the 'Show label' options is 'yes', there is the label shown under the icon. At the moment you can see the alternate icon. 17. The available options. Type: You Can choose between 'Icon' and 'Widget'. If you have 'Widget' activated, you can use an SWF file as widget at the desktop (this feature is unstable and shouldn't be used!) Label is the label you can see under the custom icon at the desktop. It is also used for the items list at the screen before (14). To change the label you have to tap 'edit' beside. File: The file name of the SWF you want to open with the icon. Icon: The file name of the picture (PNG or JPG) you want to use.* Run mode: If you have 'UCI' activated, the SWF file is started as part of the UI. That means the file must be in the folder SYSTEM\Flahs UI. If you have 'Flash Browser' activated, the SWF file is started in the same mode as the Flash Browser does. The Flash file must be in the FLASH folder. For file and icon you have to enter the extension, too! Example: testicon <- wrong | testicon.png <- correct For file (flash) the extension is always .swf. Since v4.01 Aero Ultimate supports the full replacement of stock icons. The commands listed below have to be entered as file instead of the proper filename. Music icon: r_music Movie icon: r_movie or r_movies or r_film Picture icon: r_picture or r_pictures Browser icon: r_browser Flash icon: r_flash Documents icon: r_text or r_doc or r_docs Radio icon: r_radio Dictionary icon (if available): r_dict DMB icon (if available): r_dmb Record icon: r_record Settings icon: r_setting or r_settings New Commands since v4.03: Notepad icon: r_notepad Hunter icon: r_hunter Calculator icon: r_calc Typist icon: r_typist New Commands since v4.25: Lock widget: r_lock Shutdown widget: r_shutdown Brightness widget: r_brightness There are also commands to run a file in a specific mode. Music Mode: nr_music++filename Movie Mode: nr_movie++filename Filename is the name of the file you want to run in the defined mode. Note: Since v4.10 Aero Ultimate supports subfolders. That means you can link for example to an SWF file in SYSTEM/Flash UI/Games/ or to an icon in SYSTEM/Flash UI/im_icons/icon_pack1/. When you finished, just tap the 'X' at the bottom. You can use your custom icons like normal icons. It's recommended for icons with shown labels to use the second grid (or no grid). * You have to create the folder 'im_icons' (without ') at SYSTEM/Flash UI. Put the icons into the folder. You can also create subfolders, they are supported since v4.10. Icon packages Squarecons Icon Package G1 v2.1 ![]() Download Orange Buttons Package by caz ![]() Download Version history You can get all previous versions here. Latest version: Aero Ultimate G1 v4.64 (10-03-2009) Settings Interface v2.01 (10-01-2009) Icon Recovery v1.02 (10-01-2009) Aero Ultimate G1 - v4.64 (Download) Changelog Main Interface [Fixed] The calendar widget showed 'Oktober' instead of 'October'. [Fixed] The hard buttons didn't work correctly in radio mode. When you entered Aero from the radio screen and you used the hard buttons to switch the frequency, the frequency changed to the last channel you listened to. Known issues - Comment Thanks to your reports about the radio mode bug I was able to fix it. ![]() ------------------------------------ Aero Ultimate G1 - v4.63 + Settings Interface v2.01 & Icon Recovery v1.02 (Download) Changelog Settings Interface [Added] Custom icons Manager: If the filename, label or picture is too long, the text scrolls. Main Interface [Added] One new Wallpaper FX 1 preset: 'Blend'. With this you can set the transparency of the wallpaper indirectly. Setting Wallpaper FX 1 Alpha to 100 makes the wallpaper invisible and setting it to 0 makes it completely visible. [Added] Aero resumes now in the last mode you used it. [Fixed] The toolbar showed 'Oktober' instead of 'October'. Known issues - Comment Now the Icon Recovery has also a separate version management. You can see the current version you use when you run the Icon Recovery widget. ------------------------------------ Aero Ultimate G1 - v4.62 (Download) Changelog Settings Interface [Added] Added a clear key to the keyboard. You can see it when the numbers and the special characters are visible. [Added] Added version management for the settings interface. [Improved] Changed version indicator. [Improved] The keyboard show now the lowercase letters by default. [Fixed] Custom Icons Manager: When you entered nothing as file, icon or label, and you pressed the enter key, the key indicator stayed visible. Main Interface [Fixed] The function I overwrite in the launcher didn't access some variables correctly. [Added] Two new Wallpaper FX 1 presets: 'Honeycombs 1' and 'Honeycombs 2'. Known issues The bug with Claw's Launcher is still there, but I'll notify you when the bug is fixed. For further information read the release notes of v4.61. Comment The new version management makes it now possible for me to create updates for the settings interface only, because it has a separate version management now. So you don't have to download the whole pack just to update the settings screen. Of course there will still be the whole packs available. ------------------------------------ Aero Ultimate G1 - v4.61 (Download) Changelog [Fixed] Settings screen: The password prompt didn't accept numbers before you tapped OK. [Confirmed] Claw's Theme Tracker works since v4.60 properly. Known issues When you have Claw's Wallpaper UI installed and you use the extended replacement commands or mode commands, and you run the custom icon which uses the command, this works normally. But after that you can't enter the standard music UI anymore using the stock icons. You can bypass this bug by creating another custom icon with 'r_music++music.swf' or 'nr_music++music.swf' as filename. This issue exists also for the movie mode commands. Just do the same as described to bypass this issue, but use 'r_movie++movie.swf' / 'nr_movie++movie.swf' instead of 'r_music++music.swf' / 'nr_music++music.swf'. Comment I think the new settings screen works fine now. Also, I'll notify Claw about the bug I just described because I use a function of his launcher if his UI is installed. ------------------------------------ Aero Ultimate G1 - v4.60 (Download) Changelog [Fixed] Claw's Theme Tracker didn't work. (Not sure whether it works now.) Comment Since Flash deleted my source file of the settings screen I had to decompile the latest one. Because of that try to find bugs and report them, please. I already fixed some, but there's always a change I didn't notice all existing bugs.

Very nice. I think you could even help design the next Windows Mobile OS GUI for Microsoft.

No, the old thread will be closed, because it was about Aero Ultimate in its development state.
This thread is about the finished Aero Ultimate G1. You can report bugs, post suggestions etc. here like in the old thread. edit: G1 = 1st gen ![]()

Very nice, dnw. Just 2 tiny things I'd like to point out.
1) I think the "bluetooth on" icon would've been better if it were blue instead of green. 2) Under High performance: "The interface is very fast and responsible". I think you mean responsive ![]() Anyway, it's a very well done UCI. Thank you for your hard work. |

You can stand proud, dnw, this is one of the best UCIs on the S9 so far. You and Claw are clearly our heroes. I just wanna say thank you for all the efforts that you put into creating this theme.
Btw, what's the font that you use to put under the icons ? I have a few customize icons and just wanna add these texts in so that they will look uniformly with your other icons ![]()

@mosaiC:
Thank you. ![]() The font is called "Marke Eigenbau" (it's from a German site ), you can download it here.The other fonts on that site are nice, too. http://pixelfonts.style-force.net/ @kafkef: 1. Really? I can change that, if it really bothers you. 2. Oh, thanks. Just fixed.

No, I doesn't bother me at all. I just thought it would look better if it were blue as the "real" bluetooth logo is blue. Not at all a problem for me as I never use bluetooth on the S9 anyway.

Hooray! Thanks dnw, this site got some really good fonts ^^
And btw, yes, I think you should change the bluetooth icon into blue when it's activated. You know, coz everyone think of blue whenever they think of bluetooth (and it's name contain "blue", too!). And don't worry, for me it's perfectly fine if you don't. I understand the reason that you colour it green though, after I see yellow and red : it's resemble traffic lights ![]()

Agreed, you and Claw are THE best UI developers we have for the S9 PERIOD!
This newest update dnw is so wonderfully fun to use and see, I just can't help myself from showing it off to others! People may ask for the rotating (g-sensor) and such and I personally think it PERFECT the way it is now. No UI (not even the ones from the Korean side) can touch this UI in it's sheer awesomeness, it is just so fantastic, I love this UI! My final suggestion- Take a break from your Main Menu and start that music UI you are teasing us with !
