Hello,
I need to sort music on a player (hopefully a U5) so that when its time to playback the music it will allow browsing inside folders and subfolders to find the first track and start playing. Instead of having them sorted by a database, I don't want databases, I want folders. This is a must. ![]() Does the stock firmware on the U5 allow this? If not, is there a firmware version update will allow this? I need to know before I buy a player today or very very soon. Thanks. |

What has me confused is that Amazon user reviews state that folks are browsing by file/folder on their American U5! Which the sticky says is not possible with American (International) firmware!
So, I'm not sure... From the Sticky: "1.XX - This is the International firmware. Most commonly this will be the stock firmware that arrives on your U5 outside of S.Korea. With this firmware you can use M3U playlists, browse based on tags (but not by file/folder) and connect to music on the go services and audible services using the MTP protocol. This release does not allow for the playback of Ogg Vorbis or FLAC files, you cannot delete files from the device on the go " |

They could be using the 3.XX firmware...which is a firmware that was released months after the 1.xx and 2.xx firmware. Nobody really knows why the 3.xx firmware was released.
Not that it makes a difference because you can use any firmware you like, as the sticky mentioned...so your question has been answered ![]()

I plan to give for a gift. If it was to be mine then yes I could update.
But the recipient can't do updates, but she needs folders. So the original is what she's stuck with. However, almost surely it allows folder search, so I will take a chance that it does. Thanks for the responses, though. Appreciated! Last edited by Crow; 01-26-2009 at 21:01.. |
