Default Cowon D2 Taken Apart *Pictures*

So, I've taken apart my D2. Heres what it looks like from the inside. The battery is swappable.

And if your any good at soldering you can add yourself a 8GB SAMSUNG NAND Flash memory module. Thus making your D2 at 12GB!
Not sure if it will work 100% but it should!
I know if you add a 4GB Samsung NAND Flash it will work no problem.

I have blurred out a few parts of the picture with serial numbers.

I was thinking about swapping out the chip on my 4GB unit and adding two 8GB chips. I just can't find a source of the Samsung chips yet.
Anyone?

How hard is it to take apart? Would it be easy to say, replace the battery DIY? And if so does anyone know the exact kind of battery, or if you could put in a longer lasting one?

Are the pins the same? The 16GB D2 might only have a single 16GB flash chip. You would also need to get a copy of the D2's schematic. And the datasheet of the flash chip. You also have to be really experienced in soldering/desoldering. Those small pins are not easy to solder.

Woops didn't see those pictures!

Well it's really easy to take apart the d2. take off the 3 screws and the back comes off with very little pull.

hmm, being easy to take apart should make battery replacement down the line easier.

I believe all D2's (except for the 2GB obviously) use banks of 4GB.

The 2Gb and 4Gb models use 2Gb banks, and the 8Gb and 16Gb players use 4Gb banks (see the Rockbox wiki page), but mostly those banks are packaged into one physical chip. Eg. the 8Gb is a single chip containing two 4Gb banks. The 16Gb probably uses two of these 8Gb chips, but I haven't seen one opened to be sure.

I am certified on micro miniature soldering. It is not easy, but I can do it.
I was bummed out yesterday though. I opened my 8GB D2 yesterday and discovered that the open space is no longer a TSOP package. The unit was bought in January. I will post a picture when I get a chance.
