Ahhh well then I completely and totally apologise, sorry about that.

Ok well lets try and figure out why your battery life was so low. Recently one of our members, FURR, retested his D2's battery because there were quite a few people complaining about battery issues - he got 38hrs...as far as i can remember... so... what Fw did you use? was it the same 2.50?

EDIT: Found his post: http://iaudiophile.net/forums/showpo...37&postcount=6

Yep, on both tests was 2.50 FW, I'll take a bath until the D2 recharge again and then update to 2.53 FW and retest. Wish me luck.

Ok, so here is the first result. I know I've should have used the same settings than on the first test. My fault. However it seems that the new firmware boosted the battery life around 5.5 hours. So the next test will be a though one, will the batter life performance be better? Or I completely screw up the second test leaving the D2 unattended?. Watch the next episode in about 2 days (well, maybe less). Stay tuned.

*The 2nd test was an unattended one because I didn't expected the 4 battery bar to be drained so fast after watching the performance of the first 3.

BTW: please don't blame me for my bad English, yo hablo castellano =P

Nice tests, but your volume averages and screem times are inconsistent. While we still have a very good idea of how long your unit lasts, an extra 5 hours isn't much with an -8 difference in volume.

I imagine to be 3 hours more, with the same volume/screen settings.

Good tests, though! Seeing it in a graph is more informative.

If your final test does indeed show an increase at the *same* settings, then I'll probably flash my firmware soon enough.

(still at 2.51)

So here I am again with the last (?) test:

Conclusions? well maybe if I didn't have left unattended the second test with the 2.50 FW everything would be more clear, however I can't argue with the devs because they did improved the battery life with the 2.53 FW around 4 to 5 more hours.

It also fixed some additional small bugs, and everything works fine so I will stick to this FW.

This doesn't mean that I'm satisfied with the now improved battery life, they still owe me at least 5 more hours to feel ok, however is nice to know that things like this can be corrected with a new FW release.

good job devs, i'll be looking forward for the 2.54 FW to be able to reach the 40 hours barrier [toungue]

BTW: I also believe that this FW has a better bass

Just to add my experience. With the following settings:

FW 2.51
mp3 128kb/s CBR
EQ off
Jet Effects off
Volume 10 (usually I listen at 5-8)
standard earphones

I get >48 hours battery life. After exactly 48h the battery symbol was blinking. I wanted to go to bed so I stopped the test before it switched off. Maybe there was enough power for another 1-2h - or just 5min.

^lucky. I get roughly 10 hours less with the same settings; stock buds, cbr, etc etc.

basement: there's little increase in battery life with those last results. 2.50 to .53 is only a 2-3 hours increase with the same settings; definitely cool to see higher numbers, but yeah, 5 more hours would be the landmark. 2.54's going to be something, if this trend keeps up.

How much of an effect of battery life do higher bit rates and using EQ and JetEffect settings have? I usually listen at 320kbps, with a BBE and Mach3Bass turned on and I was a bit disappointed at the battery life (I haven't run any official tests, but I dropped from full to 3 bars after ~6 hours of listening). Would this be about normal for these settings (FW 2.51)?

Try doing a test then we can give you an accurate reply... battery meters are rarely accurate, so without doing a full test there is no way of telling for sure if your situation is normal or not.... I would imagine it's not normal but it could just be that your battery meter is off..

Default battery problem as well

i guess i know a few people with battery problems but for me, also having bought the thing last march with hopes that it would get near 50 hours, getting once 33 hours (the best yet) was absolutely a put down. i get average of 26 hours, exactly 1/2 the advertised amount with no sd, volume at 20 or 15 and no jet effects/eq. i listen to a mixture of mp3 at around 192 and vbr of around the same and have never had good performance. i am upset as that is the main reason i bought this, to support my jaunts all over the country.

i have an ipod as well and have tested it with the same files and with no special effects and get one - two hours over the advertised battery life. since having this so long, i have used so many fw through almost one year and have never had good perf. i expected 2.53 to be better as it was noticed in the library that battery was affected, but i still put it on 6pm at night and it dies long after 8 the next night. i cannot return it - it was bought on internet from a good merchant too bad.

Your battery sounds defective. Why didn't you seek to return it after you first got the unit? Surely something struck you as odd when you were only getting half the advertised battery life? Sorry, it just sounds insane to me that you would put up with lower than advertised battery life when it was the main reason you bought the D2.

All I can suggest is to try and contact cowon about getting a replacement, I don't know the merchant trading laws of your country, but if you are in the EU then you should still be able to return the defective device to the merchant.

BioMarco had an awesome link, for battery replacements:

https://www.abtech.se/Category?categ...Reservdelar/D2

I don't know if they ship to the USA, but it's roughly $40, which isn't shabby at all, imo.

what Cowonamerica.com and cowonglobal.com says about playback:

** Playback time is based on company's self-test, The music playing time may be shortened according to LCD backlight usages.

The problem here is, what they mean by "self-test". Like I said before the flyers here say: "...su batería alcanza las 52 horas de reproducción continua en audio (FM)", which means that the 52 hours can be reached when using the radio.

Battery life is not estimated on fm radio....if anything that would shorten the battery life.... even take a gander up 8 posts to "BioMarco's" test, he got 48hrs...

I'll ask Cowon how they do their battery tests but i'm 99% sure it'll be the same method as BioMarco tried...

Just for clarification, the post you have quoted was not directed at you.
