Default iRiverter profile for D2

Update: Since iRiverter and Badak gives audio/video sync issues with many files (seemingly due to badly implemented video processing in the D2) I'd suggest you use MaxSt's excellent D2video or Elviselvis' iLove instead. Both are optimized to work around the D2's sync "bug".

Do not use iRiverter 0.17 or newer! Stay with iRiverter 0.16!

I made a D2-specific profile for the iRiverter video converter. Just put it in iRiverter's "profiles" subfolder, choose it from the "Options > Device > iAudio" menu and Bob's your uncle.

iRiverter is the easiest, most hassle-free one-click video converter. It's pretty fast, too. And it's free software. Quality isn't the absolutely best, but it's really good enough for the 320x240 screen of the D2, IMO.

Technical details:

For maximum video bitrate I chose 700kbps, but try to use only 500kbps since that's usually enough for a 320x240 video. Only use 700kbps for high-motion video (like scenes with rain or fast moving chase sequences etc).

For audio I chose a maximum of 192kbps. That would be enough for music videos, for most movies and TV shows 128kbps would be enough.

Hmm... you know... 20 minute videos from vixy.net come up to be about 50 mb. But a 40 minute video converted using iriverter becomes a 200 mb... Any light on this matter?

Vixy uses less bitrate, I suppose. Try opening the files with GSpot and compare the audio and video bitrates of both files.

You can always turn down the bitrates in iRiverter, try to find the best compromise of size and quality for your needs.

Does Vixy use XviD@320x240 and MP3 - or any other format? Never used that service...

I think vixy only uses 320x240 AVI.

AVI is just the container... GSpot shows you what audio and video codecs are inside the container.

Wow, it would be awesome if this worked. Unfortunately the converted videos go out of sync little by little. So, if you start the video, everything looks just fine. If you jump into the video - all good. However, if you let it run, you will notice it goes out of sync little by little. This is on 2.41b, yo I´m not sure if this has anything to do with the firmware...
I hope it does as then I have hope it might get fixed in the final release.
Iriverter is very very fast and I think the quality on low bitrate is really great.

Any other experiences?

Yes, it must be the firmware... I tried 2.41 and 3.41 and wasn't happy with the long boot-up times, so reverted back to 2.21. Videos play fine on 2.21. I had similar issues on the beta firmwares.

I watched a 1h30m long movie converted with these settings and sync was fine.

Did you backlevel your firmware to 2.21 and it helped? I am having the same problem you are having.

Edit: Just realized I can't go back to 2.21 because of my 4 GB SDHC card! :-( Hopefully it will be fixed in next release of firmware...

Thanks for the profile, dfkt! Works like a charm. First time I've ever used Iriverter. Great stuff!

I have not gone back yet as I don´t want to lose the ID3 browsing. I´ll wait for the final FW, hopefully it will work.

Where in the iriverter folder do you put the extra codec's?

The automatic download does not work during the install process, because the file name is changed on the site they are downloaded from.

I also can not get the preview to work.
