I have half a mind to buy it. The other half of my mind tells me that I don't have nearly the money for whatever the 60gb might cost.

Eh. It runs Windows CE. Yech.
Besides, most of that could be done in software. Cowon just needs to take advantage of more Linux software.

When the origami devices come out these will do it all, they will be a mini laptop with a 7 inch screen, with forecasts for a 10 hr battery life within a year.

Hmm... Viliv? Never heard of it. Is the viliv P1 a worthy PMP when stacked up against the A2/AV500/Vision?

http://www.xtremecomputing.co.uk/review.php?id=228 If they weren't so hard to get hold of it would have made my choice of player much tougher! The P2 does sound pretty funky but it'll probably cost an arm and a leg and I'm well happy with my A2 at the moment. ![]() |

The P2 looks completely different though and might be a load better. Don't trust that other review. The dude obviously has no clue as to what he is speaking about.

The battery life on the Cowon would have won the day anyway. I await your review with interest ...... |

Ehm... ok, looks nifty but I am rather surprised by the choice of screen resolution they made.
A 16:9 screen in 800x480 resolution?! Is it just me or that doesn't make any sense? :woh: First, true 16:9 is a ratio of 1.77:1. The Cowon A2 (and others with a 480x272 screen) give a reasonably good approximation (1.76:1) But 800x480 gives a ratio of 1.66:1! What is that? It's not 16:9, it's not 4:3, it's not cinescope... it's plain bullshit! :nutty: Furthermore, we all agree that portable video will be mainly MPEG4, right? So what are the most common resolutions for widescreen DivX/XviD/H.264/whatever - usually 576x### to 640x###. In other words, that screen will have to rescale pretty much ALL video content -> loss of sharpness. Unless of course engadget screwed up with their specs... but I doubt it. I'm just puzzled. Screen resolutions of 640x360, 854x480 (WVGA, ideal for native DVD)... or 1280x720 (HDTV, if they want to get REALLY fancy) would IMO make much more sense. |

If its anywhere around the thickness of the A2 I might be interested, (that also depends on things like battery life, price, gui, et cetera) but this player could be very cool
