Hi,
Don't know if you can use a generic or if it is supported? If you didn't want to use the battery , can you plug a car adapter into cig lighter on car to power the a2? If so, is there a supported one or any will do? Or do most just use the battery for this? |

The closest is the PSP as it uses the same voltage and power, but unfortunately not the same plug.
I haven't looked at standard ones, but 2A seems like a lot of power for these. Not sure. First one to find tells the others... Eric |

I emailed Cowon and they said there is no car adapter, and no plans to have one... Found out the price for a new battery, once the battery goes. I wonder if you leave it plugged in, if the battery will last even longer when you are indoors. almost a hundred for parts/labor/shipping in us. Ouch!
Wonder whats involved in buying a spare (if they sell it) and doing it yourself. |

My 2 cents.....
Of course you can use any generic adapter which supplies the exact voltage and Amps (in order to ensure the wattage) . DC is DC so there is particular kind of adapter for a Cowon ! The jack is a standard one too. Its available in the market and if you get an adapter with a bigger jack you can replace it with the standard that A2 uses. BTW, I just use an adapter in car for charging not for playing thru an adapter. So my generic USB charger which I use for my pocket pc works for charging A2 when its batteries run dry on my long trips in the car. Enjoy! ![]() |

Thanks. Of course we can make one ourselves: It's pretty easy and as you say the parts are readily available. I find it disappointing that COWON don't have one. I've passed the age where saving a couple bucks by getting the parts and soldering was any fun or interesting. I'm moving half way accross the country.. A long drive. I'll probably end up buying a PSP car adapter: There the right voltage and amperage. Then I'll change the tip. On the power supply, I still can't say I am sure the AC power supply is international. It says 110V on it, but some have said it's a misprint. Can't say I am keen to blow it up by trying to plug it in 220V. I travel a lot, and really need an international adapter. I may have to use the PSP trick there too. Eric |

Be rest assured that the adapter of A2 works everywhere. I live in the europe where we use 220V and it works here as well. Ive tried it in the US as well with 110V. Its just a misprint. Enjoy ! ![]() |

The car adapter for the Sanyo appears to have a very different plug:
http://www.mygift.com/sanyo/sanyo_PM8200_carchar.html Maybe you had an older version? Also it is kind of surprising a phone would need 2 amps. you may be underpowering the A2. No big deal, just that it's not charging fast. Eric [edit] found this which looks right: http://cgi.ebay.com/SANYO-SPRINT-SCP...QQcmdZViewItem Just need to confirm the specs. Eric |

Yes I do have a US model. But am now using it in Europe. Hi Guyz, Regarding the discussion about the Amps that an adapter outputs....I think if there is an adapter that outputs 2A or even 1.5A it will both work with A2. To the best of my knowledge , its not the amperes that matter its the voltage. As long as you ensure the voltage is 5VDC it should be fine. Any electronic device depending on the wattage it needs draws only that many amperes from the power supply. So if you have a 2 Amps power supply and if suppose the A2 requires 1 Amp then it will draw 1 Amp of current at 5volts. So no dangers there, just use the right voltage. I've checked the output power with a volt-metter: 5.37v see my test here: http://egaille.free.fr/A2/adapter_test/index.htm Last edited by egaille; 02-07-2006 at 21:32.. |

Why wouldn't the car charger for the X5 work with A2? I own both and the ac adaptors that came with them are exactly the same. Here is the link to the X5 car charger.
