I want to replace my ageing Sony Network HD Walkman and the audio quality of the Cowan X7 has me tempted. I have a large number of Audiobooks in Mp3 format, some of the files are between 3 and five minutes in length am I liable to here them continuously with the X7 my old Sony plays them perfectly and it would be a no go if the X7 cannot.
Thanks Last edited by lofgents; 06-21-2011 at 15:26.. |

So what is your question? All media players can player MP3 files continuously. I'm not sure how we can help. Let us know.
cheers Mark |

Specifically its to do with Audiobooks in Mp3 format say each section or file is 5 minutes in length and the way it has been split is on timing rather than any natural chapter breaks, will there be a silence in between each file or will it play as though its all joined together and you would not know they were seperate files. As I said my old Sony plays them perfectly.
Thanks again and sorry if the question was not framed correctly |

Thanks for the reply I looked at the definition on wiki before posting and it sort of wasnt file specfic and referred more to cd etc so I didnt want to mislead anyone with this post as I have seen various opinions and reviews saying Cowon players do not support gapless playback that is what is confusing me.

But both the S9 and the J3 do support gapless without any problems.
I don't know about the other players.

MP3'S aren't inherently gapless because they are a framed format, the workaround is for the encoder to write offsets into the tags when they are converted. Lame has done this automatically for a long time.
The player then uses this info to correctly overlap the files. That said there's definitely a small glitch on my x7 Craig |

I haven't noticed any problems with gapless playback on my x7.

Yeah you're right, it's a different problem.
I chose a double live album to check for gapless and it's playing in the wrong order, disc 1 track 1, disc 2 track 1, disc 1 track 2 disc 2 track 2. No wonder I heard glitches. Any ideas? Craig |

For double/triple albums I always have to re-order the track numbers (eg disk 1 has tracks 1-12, disk 2 has tracks 13-24 etc). I use MediaMonkey to do all my ripping/tagging and it can do this re-ordering easily. |

So I guess it's ignoring the disc# tag Craig |

Thanks to you all for replying looks like I have the main 2 choices that I was looking for maybe the X7 because of the storage and seperate charger more reading required.

I guess so - I have never used the disc# tag as it never worked on my old (non-Cowon) MP3 player, so I have always just re-number the entire double album !

The old Sonic Stage program despite its shortcomings is excellent for sorting out ID tags for Audiobooks and renaming albums which other programs cant find and its a free download. I will continue to use it for this purpose even if I have a new player.
