Not as bad as the Cnet BS. I still don't understand why the X5s controls are always criticized...I think they are fine. I guess if you dont have a touch wheel you dont stand a chance.

Same with the controls. I just started to play with the player 10 minutes ago and it's fairly intuitive and easy...

why do they think that if somebody mentally handicapped can operate it, it's the best mp3 player?

simple....they are so stuck up with the Ipod cliche that anything with a bloody touchpad (ex. Toshiba's gigabeat, Creative Zen, Iriver H10, ipod, etc) allows users to have good controls.

The iPod is the absolute easiest thing to use when it comes to movement through files, and as the iPod is the industry standard at the moment, you're only getting comparisons to that. As for the iRiver H10 and Creative Zen, I've heard horrible things about their touchpads. I was actually driven away from the H10 because the touchpad was getting horrid reviews as well as sound quality issues.

That was more of a criticism rather than a review.
It sounded as though he loved his ipod too much, and he wasn't ready to admit that something else might actually be better

Yes, well, denial is a very powerful coping mechanism.

Dear GOD. Lay off the C|Net review already. It's old news.
As for the PC Mag one, most people dont care for FLAC support. Most people dont know want to reencode all of their videos. Most of the people are fairly computer-savvy (espically since they took the time to research it and found this website). The truth is that for a lot of people, the iPod is the correct choice, beacuse they can get all the acessories they want, and all the support they need. However, saying that, PC Magazine is supposed to cater towards more technology-savvy people, so their knock on the fact that is has so many features and that it's not a touch wheel doesn't really hold a lot of ground. I've found the X5 pretty easy to use, but obviously most review sites dont agree with me, |

song.exe is on the money.
And anyone who trusts PC Magazine's opinion (the same magazine that will lower a pc's score at least 4 points if it doesn't have SLI 7800 GTX's and ZOMG 8 gigs of RAM) has got to be utterly retarded. |

"lack of scrolling acceleration makes browsing large collections tedious, though you can adjust the scroll speed in the menus."
- Agree with this. "The iAudio X5 is an excellent audio player marred by mildly annoying navigation." - What's the problem with this it works perfectly fine for me. I don't even have to look at it. Still don't understand that... it has tons of features and settings but still iPod is better :s. If you ask me this guy is just madly in love with his iPod. I think the only thing that ca beat iPod in the media perspective is to have MP3 device that will do what you want by just thinking ![]() BTW, what is PlaysForSure? |

Sometimes it's warriisome to see people feel so strongly about an mp3 player; it may lead to unfounded conclusions about people posting here. Look, if a product is good, it will get it's recognition through the best advertisement - word of mouth.
The design of ipod scroll wheel or X5 joystick along with its technical functionalties caters towards different crowd. I doubt my parents would be able to make out the heads or tails if I handed them a X5. The design is intuitive towards people with technical background. For example, the underlining idea of 'folder' requires you to be familiar with the concept of folder which many people are oblivious to, dispite the fact they use computer every day, except they use only the "Desktop" or "My Document" on windows. ipod's scroll wheel is intuitive as the steering wheel on a car. You dont see another car manufacture complaining about how why they have to stick with a steering wheel and not a joystick sticking out. How why people can't learn something new? on how why people can't get use to the idea of navigating with a joystick in a car? |
