Am i doing somehting wrong? or is my brand new D2+ defective??

i am not sure what is up with my new D2+?

just got a D2+ and and hooked it up to my computer (running WINDOWS 2000)at first the screen stayed on and prompted me to a language screen which i inputed ENGLISH. It showed a full battery charge.........But is not being reconized on my computer (no drive letter or nothing....and after 1 minute it shut off......does this still mean it is recharging via the USB? the screen is black.... and when and how do i install the latest firmware....i am so excited to start using it!!!

just got it yesterday and when i plugged it into my computer USB and turned it on it:

1.The screen would go on for a few seconds then the screen would go black........( i even found the settings to keep the image on screen longer-but the same thing happened) and also it would shut itself off........"once" it had written on the screen goodbye...is that normal?

2.When i started the D2+ for the first time -it had a fully charged battery icon..........The symbol for the battery is showing it as full right out of the box...is that normal...but wow why is it not staying on?

3. On both of my computers (WIN 2000 and WIN XP) the D2+ is not reconized at all...NOTHING...i checked in the control panel and still no good results...

i was real time chatting with a COWON Tech the other day on their site........he asked me to reset it but nothing changed.....darnnnnnnnnnn!

i am thinking if it is defective or not? maybe i am doing something wrong...
i am new at all this being my first owned mp3 player......ever!!!

A few questions Please...

How do i format my D2+to this FAT 32 system file...does one really need to format the d2+ and the SDHC cards as well? what is the reason behind that?

HOW/WHERE DO I FIND THE ROOT DIRECTORY IN MY D2+? I guess u can put all the firmware,etc inside this directory?? Sorry people for these silly questions but i am really new to all this...........

What is this Black cown SD card that comes with the D2+? Is it for storage or does it have other stuff on there (info,drivers)?????

Once (Hopefully soon) i get the D2+ listed on my computer how do i start loading up music files on there...sure it is really straight foward...????

There is a option in the settings that in default makess ur D2 turnofff automaticy if it's in use. You know when you plug in your D2 and open it. That is the root. The first window you open when you plug your D2 in the computer. To update. The update you download has 2 or 3 folders. 0,1,2 or something like that. start with the first folder copy everything in the first folder this case it's 0 onto your D2 root. Unplug it turn the unit on it should update. Once done. plug it back on your computer then put everything from folder 1 in the root. unplug turn on update. same process. Then do it again for the last one, folder 3 and it should be finished. I guess if you can't detect your D2 then your screwed. But it shouldn't have a problem since it just recognizes it as a usb stick.

Thank u for the quick reply....it is just so weird it is not showing up at all as a drive....maybe i will get another 1.I just bought it days ago.........i would try what u mentioned if i could get it to be reconized on my 2 machines...arghhhh! Well i will return it and get another........

Too bad as a beginner to this D2+ world there is so much to know about it just to set it up......well live and learn...
