I was wondering what the lifetime of the color backlight is. I'm very tempted to keep the backlight on really bright all the time. My major concern is not battery life, but whether the screen will eventually burn out. Does anyone know anything about this?

I've wondered the same thing, but LEDs should last for a long time. Heck, all the electronics we have at home from the '80s have LEDs which are just as bright as ever!

I wouldn't worry about the lifetime of the LED backlight in the I5, they should last 'forever'.
I would worry a lot more about the expected lifetime of the OLED displays in other models/makes - which is one of the reasons why I opted for the I5. Jan |

I agree with JanD, however, OLED also lasts very long and it's getting better each year. The only problem with OLED is that it gets dimmer faster than LED. Full burnout for LED depends on how bright it's driven. If you set it to maximum brightness then it would obviously get dimmer quicker than a lower setting. It's difficult to estimate how long it would last before it completely "burns out" since the brightness setting will be a big factor. It also depends on how many hours a day you use it for.

By the time it burns out you'll have replaced your I5 with a 1 terrabyte iAudio brain implant. Or an I6 or something...
