Default Using the D2 A/V out cable Hmmmm

Well after playing around with the player and trying out a few things i thought i'd give the A/V out a go, I tried the D2 promo clip as well as some others and have had mixed results.

The first TV i tried it on the video and sound worked but it was black and white, the second TV i tried the screen was black and white in the top half and color on the bottm half of the screen the sound worked fine.

Has anyone else tried there D2 with the A/V out if so does it show a full color picture video clip?

Also i thought the D2 was able to display pics through the A/V out but haven't found the option to do so either on the player or in the manual.
Is this option to come in a future firmware, or am i missing something?

Thanks for any replies regarding this

How did you test this? I thought the cable was not available yet.

Several new accessories including the audio/video cable are available at Jetmall.net.

I think it could either be that you need to change from pal to ntsc or vice versa (settings)... or that you've conected the D2 to the wrong AV port on your tv..

Hi again and thanks for the replies,

One of the things i tried first up was the NTSC/PAL settings change and it was on PAL ( i'd changed it when customizing the settings first up, i also tried NTSC just incase but its scrambled) like yourself this was my first thought * i'm not plugging it into the tv directly but into video players RCA jacks (not that this should matter, or maybe it does), the video then goes into the tv (no RCAs on the crt tvs). The picture quality is respectable enough to view externally (it just mine is B/W).
One of the possiblities is that the cable is faulty or the pins arent touching properly for some reason but this doesn't seem to explain the half B/W and half color display.
Im gonna test it on some other TVs when i get the chance, these will have direct RCAs so hopefully theres a work around it may also be a firmware bug.

As for the A/V out into stereo RCA's i gave that a whirl, it sounds fine (i only tested it on a 3in1 yamaha thing but it sound fine)
Something worth noteing is that the player only uses either the D2's screen and headphones or the A/V out and not both at one time, there was a small signal from the audio A/V RCA's that can be heard when the A/V's not selected on the player but plugged into the stereo, but its very faint.
Also the volume is not adjustable when using the A/V out its a set level and the -m+ buttons switch the display back to the D2 screen.
So if the plan is to use the D2 for an audio only line out be aware that the option is for video playback only, theres no options to output via A/V for audio, pictures or text (yet and not sure if it will come for audio only).

I hope that the ability to output text and pics via A/V becomes available in the future with a firmware upgrade, i was convinced when reading the D2s details that it could do this, when it says 'watch it, read it, view it on your big screen TV'.
Maybe i read wrong but i thought 'watch it' means video, 'read it' means text and 'view it' means pics, well hopefully in a firmware upgrade

Hopefully this gives a bit more detail about the D2 and if anyones using there A/V could you post your experiances/recomendations

Thanks for the info...atleast I know the RCA audio outputs work fine because I plan on using it that way.
BTW...your not supposed to be able to adjust volume levels from the source when using RCA audio outputs. The output device becomes a "CD Player". It's just like if you hook up a CD player to your amp..you use the amp to control the volume.
To me the "video" portion of D2's A/V out is just a bonus. I just hope you find out what causing your video problem...

I can confirm the above.

Got my tv-out cable today...

The image is black and white in both pal and ntsc mode...

The picture isn't centered either...

Image is better than expected though, like a good VHS... (SVCD ~ VCD)...

When selecting tv-out the D2 screen goes black and the picture appears on the Tv..

Meaning: when tv-out enable only tv displays image, when tv-out disable only D2 screen displays image.

tv-out disables when adjusting volume, so one have to select tv-out again efter adjusting...

Sound is fine though...

To seek or skip video one have to disable tv-out by pressing the "M" button, then seek/skip and then select tv-out again...

Tried to see jpgs (pictures) on tv screen, the tv-out option isn't even there...

And there's no "tv-out/audio out" option for just music either, only for video...

So if one want to connect the D2 to a car audio system one have to connect with a 3.5" plug (same typ of plug as on regular earphones)...

I really hope this is fixed in future firmwares.. I believe so, since the D2 has only been available for a little more a than month...

Yurre, are you saying that if you use just the D2's red and white RCA outputs to a home amp's Rca inputs that you can't change or browse songs on the D2??

tabv...I'm pretty sure that is what he is saying. I was hoping for otherwise, but from everything I've seen and heard you will only be able to play video files through the TV out. So you will get a line out audio signal, but it will only be the audio portion of a video file. You will not be able to access and play audio files through the TV out.

Hopefully I'm wrong, but if not...maybe a firmware upgrade can address this. I was really hoping to run a true line out audio signal into my headphone amp. I'm assuming your intentions are the same.

Yeah I don't know about you but watching a video on a tv from the D2 at 320 x 240 doesn't really do much for me although it is a nice option.
But what I really wanted was a Audio RCA line out. Not for a headphone amp like you'd want it but to hook it up to my Home audio amp and use it as a sorta cd player...that way I could set up a playlist according to who's coming over and the mood without the hassle of looking through all my cd's.
I just can't believe that it's not able to do this now...just seems crazy to have an audio/video output without being able to use just the audio output to just play your audio files on the D2.
