Default 3rd Party functional software releases (Community Development Project)

Greetings members of Iaudiophile. I'm making this thread to consolidate the functional software releases for the A2 that were developed by the community for the community. I'll keep this list updated on a weekly basis for any new applications that are released for the A2.

If a program is noted to be compatible with the A2 bootloader then it has been tested and confirmed to work with it. Please do not try to use incompatible programs with the bootloader. Refer to each program's short description for help on using it.

Mandatory Warning:Third party software may void your A2 warranty. If you install this software you agree to be aware of this and this is a signal that you have waived your rights to legally persue any of the developers, Cowon or Iaudiophile. In short, we'll help you but you're on your own. As of this point no one has had any hardware faults as a cause from installing this 3rd party software.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

Bootloader :
Developer : Iscran, based of Dzenc's original.
Version : 2.5 (23/12/06)
Active development : Yes.
Source code avail. : Yes.
Description :
The Cowon A2 Bootloader was designed to accommodate the loading of 3rd party A2 applications. On boot up you will be presented with a menu of your applications you can select from to run. Since its original incarnation many new features have been added to make it more useful, such as password protection of your A2. Please name other applications so they end in .a2 and place them in the .apps folder of your A2. Read the included instructions.
The Cowon A2 bootloader was originally created by Dzenc. The project was then since adopted by Iscran.

Looks good, I'll try it later. Thanks for the hard work.
The password protection is a nice touch. Here's an idea though - since the A2 does a sort of file scan on startup, maybe we (and by we I mean you or some other brave soul, I'm still not developing myself ) can add a feature to "hide" (either via file attributes or by somehow altering the file name, still not sure how this could be done) folders. This would allow a multi-user player with different files per user and/or a way to hide your more sensitive data like many people requested (you do realize you're all going to hell, right? ).
Also, if we can figure out where the player settings are stored we could make many different schemes per user. And maybe different GUI schemes as well using the software developed by this community to change the icons.

Just a few ideas I'm throwing around. If anyone cares to pick one up let me know (hey, a mention in a README file or something wouldn't be that bad either )

Woohoo Congrats, looks good - I'll have to check it out later.
Say, is the TV-Out feature a hardware or software thing (or both)? Can I project this by just switching to TV-Out?

I suspect it's a matter of using the right output device, we are currently using the LCD screenbuffer, I tried just switching to the Video-Out but it won't work, we need to find the device for that.

There should really be a note that doing stuff like this may void your warranty.

How would you void your waranty? Couldn't you, if things did not work out, simply format and re-install 1.85? Does the a2 warranty specificaly forbid any additional software be added? Wouldnt that defeat the purpose of it being an excternal HD where you put all KINDS of apps/software/files onto it? Just curious :-)

We've seen this argument before - there is no official stand saying firmware modification void your warranty, however since the firmware directly affects the hardware (messing with the battery watchdogs, writing to the screen, these all have the potential of destroying the hardware if done improperly) it's a reasonable claim to say that your warranty is void since you've used the device in ways the warranty doesn't cover - and it's reasonable to assume Cowon will take that stand if they can. I don't know if there's any way to tell what software you've had on the drive after a format but no one can say for sure that data isn't somehow saved and of course if something happens and you can't format...
Anyway there's very little point in arguing over this unless someone can provide substential legal arguments - in which case we might just have to remember them if we do have legal problems with Cowon ;-).

Cool beans. It wasn't my intention to start an argument, merely to see where it is written by COWON that futzing with software will void the waranty. From your post, I gather nowhere does COWON say concretely that playing with 3rd party software will void your waranty, but there is debate about wether or not third party software can count as affecting hardware. Gotcha ;-)

Please do not discuss warranty voiding in here, leave that to the other threads. Please post and discuss in the other threads. Thanks

It would be best to leave this thread to peer reviews and ideas for new upgrades, already the linux dev & play games on your A2 threads have been bloated due to this argument.

Disclaimer added.
