Hi, and welcome!

Stick with the AVI (XVID) and MP3 audio, the D2 can handle pretty high bit rates so what you tried is fine, just stick with 512 for vid and 128 audio for getting it working. If you have advanced setting for the video codec its probably a setting in there. You could start by getting an avi that works and one that doesn't and comparing the settings for it (use something like GSpot).

elviselvis did a little list of settings the D2 liked/disliked... hang on let me find it ...

Quote:
HERE IS THE LIST OF EXACT VIDEO PARAMTERS WHICH ARE SUPPORTED IN D2:

codec: MPEG 4 SP (maybe some features from ASP version, definitely no h264(which is better, but not supported), it can handle xvid codec)

quantizer/one pass/two pass - all are supported (quantizer is best)

me_quality=<0−6> - all supported, "me" mean the quality of motion estimation (me_quality=6 is best)

qpel - NOT SUPPORTED, it mean "quarter pixel precision" (disabled is best)

gmc - NOT SUPPORTED, it mean "Global Motion Compensation" (disabled is best)

trellis -supported, it mean "Trellis Quantization" - it is optimalization of compression, it will increase quality (enabled is best)

chroma_me - supported, it mean "chroma motion estimation", - it is optimalization of compression, it will increase quality (enabled is best)

chroma_opt -supported, it mean "chroma optimizer prefilter", - it is optimalization of compression, it will increase quality (enabled is best)

hq_ac - supported, it mean "Activates high-quality prediction of AC coefficients for intra frames from neighbor blocks", - it is optimalization of compression, it will increase quality (enabled is best)

vhq=<0−4> - all supported, it mean the quality of "motion search algorithm" (vhq=4 is best)

lumi_mask - supported, it will make lower bitrate in dark place of video and higher in lighter part of video (im not sure if it is better, i have to do some tests, in guide is written that it is good, so enabled is best(but not in my opinon, i dont know))

interlacing - not supported, because D2 has LCD display with resolution 320x240 and TV-out resolution also 320x240, and in this resolution are no videos recorded with "interlacing" and only screen which can display interlaced video is CRT (catode ray tube, it is the classic non-flat television), and CRT have usually 720x576 or 640x480 (disabled is best)

quant_type=<h263|mpeg> - both supported, "mpeg" have a sharper image (mpeg is best)

max_bframes=<0−4> - not supported, it causing funny looking audio/video asynchronization, have to be set to zero (max_bframes=0 is best)

packed - supported, it mean "packed bitstream", it is optimalization of compression (enabled is best)

profile - DO NOT USE IT, it is preset/profile for converting, it is better to set each parameter personally (to have not "profile=..." included between paramters)

TO THE AUDIO PARAMETERS:
audio have to be mpeg-1 layer 3, tested up to 320 kbps; it dont support mpeg-1 layer 2 or mpeg-1 layer 1
See if that helps and good luck.

Don't forget to come back and update us just in case anyone else has the same issue.
