Looking at the poll up above I saw that I was among the older users of this site. Most of them will remember the days when if we had a problem with anything we bought, we either went back to where we bought it or got in touch with the manufacturer to iron out the problem or get a replacement. Also with electronics like radios and televisions, the schematics were often on the inside of the back cover so that those of us who could read them and had a working knowledge of electronics could troubleshoot and fix them ourselves.
So where am I going with tall this you ask? Well, I am getting fed up with the trend in personal electronics that pushes people to sites like this (I'm not complaining about the site itself, please understand) instead of providing good technical support from the manufacturer. In my opinion the manufacturers should be providing tech support as part of the warranty. I mean no offense to anyone here but I feel much better about having a question of mine answered by a representative of the company that made my device who I can hold accountable rather than from someone who's credentials I do not know and who's advice may or may not sound.
Also the owners manuals, excuse me, the electronic owners manual, and that is a problem right there! I want a physical paper owners manual so that when my PC or Ipad or Z2 does not turn on, I can read a physical manual since I won't be able to access the electronic one because my device will not turn on!!!!
I fully understand how people with similar devices can be helpful sharing information back and forth but it seems to me that in more and more instances this is becoming the primary method that folks are finding out what is wrong with their device or how to operate their device and I just feel that is unfortunate and that we are letting the manufacturers off the hook for what is ultimately their responsibility.

Note: this is a repost of my own message from another forum. I wrote it in 2009. But now I faced the problem again. I have Cowon S9, X7 and now D20 for two week and all of these palyers have THE SAME problem.

Hi everyone. Hope you can help me.

I have a mac and cowon x7. Bad combination, I know...
Here`s the story: yesterday I unplugged my x7 unsafely and all the files were "gone". Hopefully, I knew the solution that worked the previous time. It also worked this time (just need to format the FLASH drive). But another problem occurred... After formatting the flash drive and tweaking EQ the sound became awful. A very noticeable distortion appeared on both lows and highs. How can that be ? I replaced some tracks which I tested (thought they were somehow corrupted after unplugging)-no result. Tried different firmwares-no result. I even formatted BOTH drives, copied some tracks-no result. There was still this distortion, noise in all tracks. I switched to Rock preset-eveything was OK ! The same was with other presets...

So here`s the custom EQ setting I use: 9/1/5/3/6 nar/wide/wide/normal/wide (80Hz-220Hz-1.1kHz-3.0kHz,13kHz), BBE 10, Mach3Bass 3, 3D Surrond 3, MP enhance ON, STE 3 ,Reverb 0. All tracks I tested were in FLAC and sounded perfectly before I unplugged my player yesterday... I think I checked everything, even the headphone connector !

Can anyone help me solve this ?

P.S. Funny, about 4 months ago I had exactly the same issue, but I don`t remember the solution >_<

----------------------------------------------------------

Note: later I found a solution for X7. Read below.

Well, I cannot still believe... but it seems I have fixed everything.
First someone told me to format both drives under windows pc, but not under mac. I did that. It took about 6 hours ! With no result. I tried formatting into different file sistems-NTFS, Mac os extended... Again with no result. The last thing I tried, was putting firmware v1.08 on it.

AND IT WORKED !

So now I know the difference between 1.08 and 2.08-the first one is in korean language =)

----------------------------------------------------------

So now the same thing happend to D20...

I'd need a little help about something:

My car does not have an input jack/Bluetooth/CD player.
I have a cowon Z2 and I'd like to transmit my music by FM wave. I suppose that should requires a compatible Android device that would connect directly to the Z2's USB/jack port.

Does anyone know a good device that would do the job efficiently please?
Thank you in adance.
Have a great day !:)

Due to hearing loss (esp high frequencies) I'm looking for a player with a detailed equalizer, and I noticed something weird - it seems that all of Cowon's mp3 players have only 5 band eq. This is weird since jet audio for android has 10 band eq (20 in the full version).

Is there a cowon player with this feature? I would expect the android Cowon players (e.g. Z2) would have this, but its specs also say 5 band.

Would I be better off buying an android phone with reasonable sound engine (sony?) and running jetaudio on it?

Thanks for the help...

Hello

First post here from me. My name is Menno, I am from the Netherlands.
Having the iAudio 10 16Gb now for a few weeks (updated firmware to 1.08) and the audio rocks. Yet I am running into issues:

1) Deleting the files with PC (Windows 8 Pro 64bit) either with WMP or through the Windows Explorer, causes the player on random to freeze completely. Have to unplug the player, leave it alone for around 10 minutes and then it suddenly updates it database and I can connect with USB again. Then delete files and bang!, freezes again [sad]

2) On random the tags are not set on the player. Player is only showing the cover-art and title but artist, album, numer and so on are Unknown. It is showing on WMP just fine but not on the player. Removing the files and uploading them again to the player and then the tags are there just fine on the player. But then suddenly other tags don't show anymore.

3) The menu becomes kinda sluggish after just a few days. Doing a reset to factory state does resolve that but have to do settings again then.

I do not have videos on it, no pictures or whatever. Just audio files in WMA and MP3 format and not fully stuffed, having around 12 Gb on it. I really am starting to think to return the player for a replacement but before I do that I thought I ask here first cause maybe there is some easy solution :)

And no, not finished yet ;), here a few questions:
1) The manual is missing a lot of stuff that is on the player. Did do an Q&A on the Cowon site 5 days ago yet no reaction whatsoever. Is there a complete manual somewhere for this player?
2) If I want to have a complete new/fresh player, can I format it using the Windows Explorer format? I did read about that for another Cowon player but don't know if it is also applicable for the iAudio 10. And if so, which clustersize has to be set?

Sorry for so much questions at once and thanks in advance for any info/anwers.

Menno

I was looking into changing the different UIs, but I can't seem to figure out how to change the mainmenu UI (the other ones are fine).
I put (for example lynx) in the "root/System/Flash UI" folder and tried the names "mainmenu1.swf", "mainmenu2.swf" and "mainmenu.swf".
I got it working without a problem on my old S9, but I feel like I'm doing something wrong here.

I’m a proud owner of the iaudio 7 and that mp3 player is now dead so I bought the D20. It has to come in so I have one question about the D20. Is there a function to let it automatically play when I turn it on. This function was there on the iaudio 7. (auto play and resume) What it means is. I turn it of (not on standby) and when I turn it on the next time it will resume playing where I left of. So I don’t have to wait for it to turn on, I can just put it on and let it slip in my pocket and wait for it to play. After reading the C2 review I see that it's not there so I guess the D20 hasn't either. Can someone confirm this?

Yikes I have never had a first post and a first in a forum at the same time.

Hi. I have just bought a D20 here in the UK and to be fair I am in two frames of mind over it.

I like the look of the player it makes a change from soft curves and looks very workman like with it's boxes ;)

The screen needs a bit of pressure to get it to work. The good side is that it is not going to trigger accidentally in your pocket, though there is a lock on the power switch.

Now for the sound. Since loading up and letting it charge I have been listening to the wife's i9. Now we have both been happy with the i9's sound and as long as it was on par I would have been happy. I have been listening to classical Jon Lord's Concerto for Group and Orchestra and I have heard instruments and notes that I have never heard on it before on a set of (all things) Motorheadphones Iron Fists. These are very precise and not at all bassy which you would expect given their name, they are tuned for guitars though. The other end of the music scale had to be Motorhead given the headphones. Once again crisp sound where you can tell if the bass is plucked or strummed along with every note. There is no mushy bass that obliterates all the finer high sounds.

Now for the fly in the ointment!
The D20 uses the artwork as icons to show what you have on the player. I have not been able to find a listing of either Artist or Album. It is a potluck selection that is not even alphabetical. As far as I know the artwork is embedded into the MP3 or 4 as the player on the pc sees it o.k. This is totally ruining my initial experience.

If anyone knows how to rectify this by either getting the artwork to show or for a listing I would be so grateful.
