What cover are you using and what made you use one over the other?
Please post a pic where applicable.

just the invisible shield, all the protection that's needed for this device.

I hear about people using cases for the protection of the joystick. I see your take is contrary. So is the fragile nature of the joystick bunk?

I'm worried about the joystick too, but not anywhere near enough to put what I consider to be an unattractive case on the device whose protection of the joystick is just a supposition. I handle my device gently, but not overly so, as I toss it in my bag daily with keys, wallet, cellphone, etc. But then again, I have never had any problems dealing with a straight plug for my headphones either.
Following your advice, I might get a simple and cheap camera bag and that will be my case, especially since I'm using the remote, too. I'm also making an outboard battery pack, so the bag might hold it all together, subpack and all.
No case or any sort of protection. Carry in front left jeans pocket with nothing else in the pocket. About ten months old and looks just like when I cut it out of the bubble pack. X5l and I do use the remote. YMMV

i have a zcover now but seeing how i have a cradle i stopped using the case. i think my zcover may be up for sale and im just gonna get a screen protector. the X5 is sexy as it comes and the zcover takes some of that away IMO

i got the zcover. Its black.
shows alot of lint/dust. its bulky and hides the "beauty" of the X5.
it protects it really well, rubber is a great shock absorber, and the screen protector is nice. all buttons/holes/plugs are easily available. covers the joystick nicely (not sure if its needed). belt clip comes in handy at times.
I should mention that (like Zeus) I do toss this in my bag with all kinds of other goodies, so I like having the case around it (in particular the screen cover). But i should also point out that the case is much less prone to dents/nicks/scratches than other competitors out there.
If I remember to do so tonite I'll put some photos up...
shows alot of lint/dust.
Use water and wash it often. I also used to keep a mini bottle of hand sanitizer to clean away the lint, now the case is not sticky and doesn't attract that much lint.
I like my zCover, got the clear one. No problem with lint and dust. Protects the player and the joystick very well. And the swivel-clip is neat, too.
A friend of mine got the black one, it showed lint/dust for the first month or so, but then the electrostatic (or whatever) disappeared.
BTW: I don't like leather covers - they destroy the, uh, 'technocratic authority' of the X5's beautiful design.

Matter of opinion. I disagree. [wink]
I love leather cases and I've had one for each DAP I've ever had. Wanting to try something different, I made the mistake of buying a ZCover when I bought my X5L and hated the dust it attracted since it made the player look so bad. So I returned it and bought a Noreve case and I've been happy ever since.
I've had the case so long I often forget it's only a case, and my player seems naked without it! I really don't know why, but I never want to take it off. [laugh]
I just got a Zcover a couple days ago and love it. I picked up an I6 while I was at it, too.
Gotta say you guys are too whiney. Dust? I used it for a couple days and the fibers it attracts are subsiding. I was roving around two NYC metal shows with it on my belt, including treading my way through the moshpit. No hassles. The only thing I have trouble with is the plug for the remote. There is interference between the case and the plug and it pushes it out a bit sometimes. I have to stretch it around the plug then it's fine.
I paid a lot for mine. Why? I love sound. I can see the display, I can use the controls, and it's protected. Couldn't care less about how it looks. I listen to it. Not look at it all day long.

You should've put a none option.
I use a "Trailmaker Equipment" case, whcih came with a backpack. I only use the case to keep all my X5 stuff in one place(subpack, usb dongle, headphones, x5, etc.). It's not for protection. I have no headphone jack porblems, screen scratches(other than some small scuffs visible in only bright light at certain angles), and no joystick problems. My X5 is in my pocekt when in use with no protection.
no case for me, the mild superficial protection isn't worth the cost and added bulk, in my eyes.
