I downloaded the fw but when I run the program I just get some buttons with question marks on them, it seems like I'm supposed to browse for a file. What exactly am I supposed to?

why is the CHARGE OFF feature so iportant?

i thought it is cool that the player is charged when connected. and when the battery is full the charging stops anyhow, so what's the deal?

hErMa
02-10-2005, 08:33
the more you charge it, the less capacity it has...well, it doesnt really matter ..cos the battery doesnt start to lose capacity until you have charged it 400- 500 times...and maybe more, i dun remember
:D

Yo hErMa!

Do the album and artist titles scroll in the "now playing" screen yet?

That's the one thing I'm looking for before I buy it.

Best,

Justmoi

Also, better line-in recording. The encoding of mp3 is terrible, even with 128bit. I don't understand why it should be so bad.

D_Ace

yeah line-in quality and scrolling in the artist name/album would be awesome.

scrolling in the artist name/album would be awesome
.

Apparently, according to that review posted elsewhere by Michael Wieczorek, that problem/bug has been fixed in the M3. I wonder what's preventing them from doing the same in other models?

@ justmoi
No, unfortunately there is still no scrolling for artist name/album. Maybe in a future firmware release.. But I have to say that v1.31j is TOP!

Thanks very much demis555 for that answer.

I've pretty much come to the conclusion that that information is really not so important on a 1GB. On a 20GB or 40GB, I see it as essential though, and so do iAudio, quite obviously, as they fixed this problem on the M3, so I understand.

I've decided to wait for the 2GB G3 which should be out very shortly. On the other hand, the U2 is utterly beautiful. Decisions, decisions...life can be so tough. LOL. :)

Take care.

does the U2 support DRM files now?

I read it on the swedish site, can anyone confirm it?

yes...the korean versions do come with english as well. Lots of us use the korean firmware for like m3 because its released alot earlier than internation versions.

Hey!

I'm just curious if anyone knows whether or not the OGG problem has been fixed, or if it actually can be fixed?

As has been noted, playing OGG files seem to eat up your unit's battery a lot quicker than playing MP3 files, which can be annoying for those who've ripped most of their CDs into OGG files.

demis555
02-16-2005, 10:41
Yes, OGG files reduce the battery life 20-30%, but this is not a bug or problem. OGG files need more CPU usage and it's normal that battery last less than MP3.

Is the same as, how u cant able to take food, when your stomach is full,

Like this, there is limit that the battery can charge, after that it wont charge unless it drains,

So the charging stops

**Don' mistake if any thing wrong

Installed it yesterday and it seems to work great!
The only things I'm missing is the crossfading function, and mayby an "sorting " funktion in the internal "filemanager". Search function would also be good:)
Otherwise Iaudio rules. Planning an M5L40

To D_Ace regarding DRM support,

Yes it has supported DRM since 1.30a. I use it on occasion. A restriction, you must use the DRM native program (i.e. WMP or other) to transfer the DRM protected files to the U2. If you don't, they won't play. I've only used MSN so far...it recognized the U2 as a 'sync" device, but you can only put the DRM files in the root folder. If you want them in another folder you have to move them (with explorer or whatever else) there after transferring with MSN. Your milage may vary.

Ah thanks LazyCal =)

Can we list exactly what the changes are in this firmware?

So far in the thread people have said that :

- the player now doesn't charge automatically if its plugged into the USB cable
- an improvement in sound quality

What other changes can people see?

Thanks Fido. However, perhaps I'm not seeing it, but it appears as though changes up until version 1.30 are listed in the changelog. What I'm curious about is what has changed between 1.30 and 1.31.

"- an improvement in sound quality"

Really? In what way?
