Favorite Bands (http://www.iaudiophile.net/forums/showthread.php?t=4240)
One (and only one) album recommendation (http://www.iaudiophile.net/forums/showthread.php?t=2572)
Has anyone actually tried anything from these threads? If so, what was the result?
note: I'll reply sometime after UPS decides to drop my stuff off, which could be today--or next week, knowing UPS and residential service
Nope, never read those threads. What ideas are you considering?

I'm not 'considering'.
I got Takk... (just ripped, haven't heard a note) and Funeral (on the way). I'm going to give Takk... a few listens today. I was just curious if anyone had actually gone out and tried something new based on the various albums listed.

This is the main reason I subscribe to a music service. I find lots of new music (new to me at any rate) by listening to things I hear about from friends or from forums like this.

Yeah, but I have thing against DRM, and OS lock-in :). Hence my even being here, and having an I5.
Note: I have considered eMusic.

I'm just using the $9.95/month subscription on RealRhapsody, no DRM involved. I can listen to anything I want (provided they have it) on my computer. It's a great way to explore new music.

I'll second that. Pandora is like a radio station that only plays stuff you like, and if a song comes on that you don't like, you can skip to the next one. Just like radio oughta work, IMO. And it's free.

I've tried it a few times, but I keep either having the stuff, or really disliking it (often knowing it before it comes up). The problem is like that which spawned it, it deals with starting from a known spot, and going out from that. I can do that w/o help :). I've yet to get anywhere from the free Pandora that I couldn't get browsing reviews at Amazon.com.

Anyway, now that I've gotten 'em and given a few listens:
Takk... is good stuff. Totally different than anything else I've heard before (hence Pandora being mostly useless for finding really new stuff), but maybe a little Radio Head-ish. I've now got ( ) on the way.
Funeral was OK, but it just didn't...'captivate' me. Kind of like Nightwish: not bad, but I couldn't get into it.
