Ive got a mix of 1 - 6 megapixel pictures stored on my cowon a2 downloaded from my Canon digicam.

I found that when I browse through the snaps through the browser and the thumbnails get displayed in the right frame and as i keep moving down one pic to another there is a brief 1-1.5 second pause . Its the same pause time even while I view the pics in full size .

I hope everyone has noticed the issue Im talking about.
Im sure the Cowon has enough processing power to display thumbnails much faster atleast !!! Is Cowon working on this

The A2 doesn’t pre-cache the next image or use the thumb nail image contained in the main JPEG hence its slow moving from one image to the next. When you select the next image it has to read in the file and resize it on the fly to fit the screen which is why there is a short delay. The iPod Photo relies on iTunes which creates several sizes of pictures all of which get saved to the iPod. One for thumb nail view one for full screen and one for zoomed in so the player has no work to do other than display the image.

I hope Cowon soon release firmware for connecting to Canon camera and to pre-cache the previous and next image while viewing the current one, this must be possible even if the A2 doesn’t have enough ram to store the next image in as it can create a temporary file on the hard drive of the resized image ready to display.

Your reply does make sense tipsytc but I hope this is done fast coz I get very impatient while checking my pics outdoor. It takes one minute of impatience per 60 snaps I view !!! which is a lot for a guy like me :winker:
I like the idea of caching small size pics for faster thumbnail download

Admittedly, photo-viewing always is the weakest link in all of its offerings -- i.e. when other PMPs such as Archos 500 & Zen Vision offering multiple thumbnails capacity, A2 wasnt even able to offer ONE thumbnail-viewing capacity by its first few firmware versions.

Latter firmware upgrades of A2 improved that by offering only ONE thumbnail per viewing, but multi-tasking still not feasible -- multi-tasking such as watching movie & jumping to PHOTO to see the thumbnail, or listening music when photo slideshowing...

Not sure the future A2 firmware upgrades can keep improving above, but I & many others certaninly keep our fingers crossed...++
