:woh: Why would you wanna record dvds straight from the dvd player, What ive heard is that the record capabilities arent that good of the A2.
A better approach is Ripping your DVD's to your pc and converting them to an AVI. The quality of the movie is much better, and you have more control over the output settings of the Movie (aspect ratio and stuff).
Last night, for a test, I copied a DVD direct from my player to my A2. Usually, I would Decrypt/AutoGK and copy the AVI, but I thought it was a good test.
Using the latest BETA firmware, the record was fine. Yes, I know its ASF @ 640x480/1Mbps, but it looked fine on the player and in the correct aspect ratio. Think the A2 is getting unfair comments on recording direct.
To do it, simply plug the AV (Red, Yellow, White) cable into the back of your DVD player and the jack into the AV IN socket of the A2, and goto record. The rest is pretty obvious.
You should see the DVD outputted to the A2 screen, soon as you press record this goes however. Will test recording direct from the PS2 this week.

I agree with you KiLeAk, I get very good results recording from my TV or DVD player at 640x480/1Mbps with my A2. It makes me wonder when I read all these reviews saying the A2 basically sucks at recording. And I haven't even updated to the latest BETA firmware yet.
By the way, when you say you recorded a DVD directly, are you recording a commercial DVD, or a DVD you made?

I'm answering my own question here. Last night I tried recording several DVDs I purchased and it worked great. :bigthumbs No need to do any ripping or encoding. And the playback at 640x480 / 1Mbps was very good.
I don't plan to keep a whole collection of DVDs on my A2 -- just watch them when I travel and delete them when I'm finished, so I'm not worried about any storage problems.
Meanwhile, I'm lovin' this thing! :winker:
Havent been here for a few days, but yeah, just recording my own retail dvd's. As you say, works fine!
Going on a long, dull train ride this weekend, but it wont be dull this time!
An entire series of The Simpsons me thinks!
