View Full Version : Lost Filesystem???
Alrighty, so I have a 20g X5L and I love it... or I did before this. I was traveling in the car and listening to some tunes, but most of the time, I am only using it as a photo backup from my camera. I went through a deleted a couple of large directories that held some of my older photos. When I came to a stop, I turned off the X5 (normally) and then shortly after wanted to listen to some more music. When I turned it on, it stayed on the normal startup screen for longer than normal and didn't show the normal Cowon Welcome Video. When it finally does boot up, it just shows 'Root' No Files Found. When I go to USB Host, it shows the basic directory structure, less all my music directories and my photo directories (Even the ones I didn't delete).
Now, the player also has three unnamed files in the root directory and the player says that it has only 11g free of the 20... so I think my files might still be on the disk. Is there anyway to recover these files? Or am I screwed?
I am using the 2.10b5-e firmware. Please send any help you have.
Have you tried plugging into your PC and seeing what you can see via that?
Connect it up to your PC as a USB drive and then use some disk utilities to try and recover stuff. Something like Norton's utilities or similar. It's been a long time since I've worked with straight MS stuff so I'm a bit rusty with current recovery utilities. Just don't copy anything more to your filesystem or anything like that until you can check things out.
Well, I have bigger problems now. When I tried attaching the X5 to a computer via the USB cable, it wouldn't even turn on. Is there a hard reset I could attempt? Or is this going to need a service call? Please let me know.
do you mean the reset button/hole underneath the microphone right at the bottom? you could try pressing that and see if it helps (you'll need something like a paperclip to reach)
Yes, but a tougher reset--something that resets the whole unit. I have tried pressing the little pinhole reset button, but still have the same problems. I bought it when I was home in the US, but now I am in S. America--has anyone dealt with their customer service down here?
I feel upset about this happening, but it seems like a software glitch to me. The unit experienced no hard drops or anything like that.
If it is not powering up, not even a screen flicker, I'd say the unit has crashed. It could be the hard drive or something else. Firmware won't likely be the problem. :(
No, it will power up manually, but only when I attach it to a computer does it fail to turn on automatically.
Any other ideas? i emailed the tech support, but haven't heard back yet. Has anyone had any success with email tech support. I am in Argentina right now, even though I bought it in the US. I bought it through Amazon, but I have a feeling that they aren't going to take it back too easily.
Thanks for your help so far,
Have you tried changing "USB Mode" from General just to see if that does anything? The other "USB Host" port seems ok? It shouldn't have any bearing on your sub-pack connection but possibly wise to check if any other bits of the hardware failed.
