Did anyone came across the problem of not being able to play some video files at full screen of A2 ?

I couldnt play some video files at full screen of my A2. These files play full screen on my computer. Couldnt figure out why. Is there any option of full screen play on A2 like in computer even if the size of the video file is smaller than A2 i.e. less than 480x272 pixel ?

I am not sure what you exactly mean.
As a test, I just loaded a file with a resolution of 320 x 180 only and the A2 did display it fullscreen,
eg it scaled the resolution up to 480 x 272 automatically.

What the A2 will NOT do is crop a video.
There is currently (I use firmware 1.39) no way to make a 4:3 video fill the screen (chopping off the top and bottom).
It will be scaled to a hight of 272 pixels regardless of input resolution though.

I have tried WMV9, DivX5 and XViD files. Maybe your file uses a codec that the A2 can "barely" display but not scale properly?

thanks for responding MCSmarties. By play back in full screen I mean exactly what you mentioned first. I dont mean chopping off the video.

The full screen as I understand just means bringing the video playback to maximum size within the screen. So eventually some areas of the screen will be left blank, if the ratio is other than screen ratio. As we can see video with aspect ratio larger than 16/9 will have top and bottom portions of the screen left blank like in extra wide movies, and if the ratio is less than 16/9 the side portions will be blank, like the normal TV recordings which have 4/3 aspect ratio.

My problem is that, I am not getting the play back in full as described above for some of my movies that played fine on my PC.

As you mentioned that you played a file with smaller video size which played on the full screen, so was it default play back or you have to press some button to blow it up to full screen. If not, then is there anyway you could play this video in its exact 100% size.

Well, inspite of writing so much above what actually I am talking about is the zoom feature of video play back from 100% to full screen, which is a very common and must feature in PC.

That was "default" (eg, using the Auto setting).

I wonder if your movie is not encoded properly. Try this: when you show that movie on your PC monitor, scaled to 100% (so NOT fullscreen),
do you see black bars surrounding it?

I know for example that when I use software to capture the video image of my webcam, a black frame is added around it which is stupid.

If that is the case, the A2 will scale the video "window" properly but will not touch the black frame (how would it know the black frame is not part of the video?)
The solution in that case would be to crop and re-encode the movie.
Use VirtualDub or VirtualDubMod for that - freeware and MUCH faster than other options.

Hope this helps.

Try going into set up - movie player and changing the aspect ratio to 16:9. This is what I did and now my vids play at the max full screen (no margins on the screen).

GL and enjoy the A2! I love mine (Im new here btw).

yes Fuser u r right, but by doing so you actually change the aspect ratio i.e. u stretch the video from its original size. But that is something I never do because it ruins the video. Its like looking into those strange and funny mirrors in the amusement parks that make u look like compressed can or something like hell :nutty:

Hi. Does anyone (MCSmarties?) know if COWON is antisipating to make the video crop 4:3 to 16:9 in any of the (future) firmware releases?
This will help me to understand, if I should crop off all of my avi-s to be 16:9 for A2...
Thanks

I think cropping a video will never be the subject of firmware upgrade. Neither it is good thing to do as an inbuilt function of any player. The reason is chopping the original video is not the right thing to do as design standard for a company.
But this is not a big problem for any user. You can use various softwares to chop off the portions of the video
