This afternoon I took my iaudio for its first unexpected flight through free air, landing on a hard, stone floor. When I turned it on, saw to my disgust that the right half of my iaudio x5l screen was white striped! Horror!
The left side of the screen works like a charm, but the right side has vertical white stripes, which in between I can see the normal display.

I guess what's happend is that I broke off one of four soldering joints, disconnecting a fourth of the screen. I'm descent with soldering, so I hope to be able to resolder the little joint to the screen. My questions are: Do you recommend doing this? Have you done this? and Could anyone get pictures of the components I will be operating with?

Any relevant information would be much appretiated

good luck. There has to be a screen replacement out there for it.

Cowon can repair screens, i cracked my screen (although i'm still at a loss as to exactly how that happened) anyway, they repaired it for £30, although as i live in the UK it had to be shipped to Germany for it to be repaired - which took two weeks! still its now as good as new.

My problem with that is, that I bought it in the US and now live in Sweden. Therefore, I don't think my unit is under warranty unless I pay the shipping to the US.

I would rather try to repair it myself, since it should just be a tiny broken connector, no external damage. The screen itself is probably working, It's just 1/4 of signal missing.

I don't know about Swedish post, but if you wrap the X5 only in bubble wrap (I used about 5m of it) it only weighed 240g, and was couriered to the US for £7 (about 10 Euros).

It's worth it - once you open it the warranty will be void and you may have done (or do later) more serious damange that you can't repair.
