is it me or is the older x5 model a better build quality. im talking about the ones that came in the cardboard box and not the new plastic casing. my first player which was purchased in beg of july felt a lot more sturdier and solid, as far as the joystick is concerned and it never froze on me, my newer 30 giger has a joystick that feels loose and froze up like 4 times already in 3 weeks of ownership. i just hope i never have to rma the damn thing cuz all you hear are tech support horror stories. i welcome all to reply. feel free to weigh in on the matter and throw your 2 cents in.

I don't know, but for some reason that wouldn't surprise me.

Mine came in that bullet-proof plastic and the joystick felt sturdy. That's not the case anymore. I think it's going to crap out on me more for some reason. I'm literally cautious and avoid skipping/fast-forwarding through my stuff 'cause I can just feel it wearing out. Definitely going to RMA when the chaos settles down at Cowon America's customer support.

Mine came in the bullet proof plastic packing. The quality on the X5L has been rock-solid so far - even dropped it a few times. Maybe they had a bad batch with joysticks?

I have the "boxed" version. I can't imagine there is much construction diffirence. But what do you mean by: "feeling your joystick wear out?"

By wearing out I mean it's giving less and less tactile feedback in the + and >> directions when I press the joystick that way. The + gives absolutely none at this point, I think >> is headed that way. It's a bit ridiculous after a little under 3 months of average usage.

True true, that sounds bad. I think you should go for an RMA. How do you keep your X5 with you, in some cover or in your trouser? Or in a rugsack?

I just have it in my left pants' pocket when I go out. I don't carry anything else in that pocket.
