Just thought i'd right up my experiences with the A2 incase anyone has simiilar problems...

basically I had my A2 at work today, I thought the battery was quite low so I nabbed someone elses Big to small Usb cable from their desks (I think it was for a motorola phone) bunged it in, seemed to be working fine, then after a while unmounted it from my computer and tried to turn it on....

nothing.....

weird, I thought. Maybe i'd had it set on lcd and the battery had died, tried putting it on hold and plugging it into the computer again... left it for about 10 minutes and tried it..... still nothing....pressed the reset button, still nothing, pressed the reset button a couple more times..... still

brought it home and plugged it into the mains adaptor, left it. still nothing... nothing on the screen at all....

plugged it into my pc and it showed up as it always does, by this time I was starting to worry (I know i'm under warranty, but still, i'd rather not return it..) it was functioning as a disk drive but nothing was happening on the screen at all, not even the little red light was coming on.... tried reset again.... still nothing...

started scouring the A2 forums for anything to help, but because the A2 is so new, there's very few posts about it yet.... nothing on this forum either

tried installing jetshell to see if there was some format options or something in there, found the 'format drive' option, tried it thinking it might help.... obviously it deleted everything... DOH....

read a post in this forum with a guy who'd done the same thing (deleted all his A2 system files) so dropped the firmware files into the root of the A2, unplugged it, thought i'd try and press the reset button again, a bit harder (when you press it it clicks a bit, thats what I did the first couple of times... so i pushed it in till it clicked then a little harder)...... pushed the on button and the joystick.... and BAM.... it comes to life.....and starts the firmware update....

so i'm not sure what happened exactly, it was either the foreign usb cable or maybe I didn't unmount it from my pc properly before I unhooked it...

but either way... a firmer push of the reset button fixed it.....

:blah:

my A2 is dead..... again....

this time I can't even get it to connect to my computer again... I was putting some mp3s on it this morning, disconnected it (by unmounting it first) ..turned it off..... got outside my flat tried turning it on.... nada..... tried resetting it loads of times still nothing, when I plug it into the usb all I get is the screen goes half dark(one side black, the other side nothing) and it doesn't connect.

i'm really not happy about this, i'm gonna have to contact either cowon europe or the store where I bought it and get a replacement....

normally you read these kind of threads (e.g my A2 is broken after 2 days!!!) and think the person either buggered it themselves by doing something wrong, or mis-treating it.... but really i've been looking after it like it was a baby......

has anyone else had any problems with their players???

reading your very 1st post in this thread, I was thinking to myself that "...you must've drained all the battery ..." before attemting the reboot or reset. The manual does say after complete power drain-out, you should've recharged the A2 for at least half an hour, before rebooting or resetting.

But reading your 2nd post above, I'm perplexed too. Did you use USB to charge your A2 or use AC power plug to charge it? Better use the AC power plug to recharge the A2.

I've had couple of hang-ups with my A2 & re-booting could've usually solved that. I had once completed drained out the battery & a full recharge solved that too...But yours above ??? Do you think you may've input some corrupted files in A2 which may have caused this?

Sorry can only offer my comforting words here....

Nope fully charged it over the weekend with the AC plug, getting in contact with my reseller now....

yeah from my first post I thought i'd just discharged it too.... but no.... when I finally got it to start up it was at half power....

weirdness, maybe its just a faulty unit...

oh my god... WTF..... so I get home.... try resetting it again.... still nothing, try plugging it in to hm home pc... nothing still, just got the weird half black screen, kept it plugged in to the usb and plugged in the AC adaptor.... BAM.. comes to life...... W T F..... am i losing it??? ok so I thought myabe I am losing it, maybe i thought i'd charged it over the weekend the plug had been off or something, maybe the battery had died, so I un-hook it from the pc, unplug it from the mains(after about 10 seconds of peing plugged in, boot it up.... the batteries fully charged, everythings fine....

i'm really confused..... maybe its the new firmware........

somethings weird..... either with my player... or with the firmware.... or MAYBE there's an invisible energy field around my apartment that makes the player fall asleep whenever I take it outside....:nutty: :nutty:

you might wanna check your AC adapter. i had crazy problems with my x5 . . . had given up, then when i got my a2 i plugged the new adapter in and left it in for 1.5 days, and VOILA! my x5 is fixed!! except for the super-staticky headphone jack.

the screen was just showing stark white . . . it's a documented problem with the x5, and the cure is to leave it plugged in for 3 (or in my case, 1.5) days. i'm just sayin, try EVERYTHING . . . never know what it could be!!!

yeah you're right, i'm gonna see if it happens again, and try and get too the root of the problem... although up to now it seems to be hit and miss as to whats causing it...

thanks for letting me know about your problems with the X5...
