View Full Version : Theoretically, shouldn't the X5 be able to play back 23.796fps video?

I mean if you can encode them at 384kbps @ 15fps and the device will play them then it's obvious it has enough power to decode that kind of a bitrate (along with the 128kbps MP3 audio track). 23.796fps at the same bitrate wouldn't look as clean but regardless it's the same bitrate so the hardware would be still decoding the same amount of information but with just less information on each frame. I've played around with various files higher than 15fps but the iAudio just skips back to the main screen.

Any idea on this? I bet Cowon could just release a new firmware to enable this kind of playback.

Decoding at this bit rate is one thing, but displaying so many frames in a second on the screen is another, I think. X5 has no problem with the former (heck, it can play wav which is at 1411 kbps), but I'm guessing the latter is an issue.

Maybe edit the header information so that it read at or below 15 FPS and try it? It's worth a try but the only problem that I can see coming from it is audio/video desynchronization which can be fixed easily as well.

hey 24fps is normal TV/Movie theater speed. I'm down with it. Kusanagi, send them an email and see what they tell you!
