http://reviews.cnet.com/Cowon_iAudio_A2_30GB/4505-6499_7-31563859-2.html?tag=nav

These guys piss me off with their reviews.

Here's their list of negatives:
-iAudio A2 lacks remote control functionality
-Lacks Windows Media DRM 10 compatibility
-doesn't support TiVo To Go (neither does the av500-but no complaint on that review.)
-does not yet work with Janus(who cares! Neither does av500!)
-No kickstand (how many PVPs come with one)
-no motion JPEG compatibility(neither does the av500-but no complaint on that review.)
-can't sync your Microsoft PIM programs

They point out that "the iAudio A2 lacks remote control functionality and Windows Media DRM 10 compatibility, which is vaguely promised to "be supported later" Come on, Is that really a letdown?? If it's promised why are they complaining about it.

They also put as a letdown: doesn't have a convenient built-in kickstand, but the included carrying case can prop the player up for hands-free viewing. They should put that as a PLUS!!! How many other pvps come with a leather case like that. They don't mention that the av500 doesn't have a kickstand in their av500 review as a letdown!

It seems like they just put these as negatives just to fill up the page.

First, the AV500 comes with a case which serves as a stand as well - leather. The AV700 has a built-in kickstand.

As for the other features, the software which comes with the AV500 will specifically convert Tivo-to-Go as will MediaPlayer 10 - which is one of the advantages of Windows "Plays for Sure" support, as is Janus - supported on the AV500.

That is all.

Ohh, my mistake. They didn't mention that on the cnet review of the av500. I stand corrected.

What is TiVo? Is that some weird American thing that we don't have in Europe? :nutty:

Uh, I checked it on the web, sounds kinda lame.

the cnet ppl still have their faces up in apple's ass.

this whole DRM thing is so stupid, i know that the industry wants to force ppl to buy mp3/wma whatever music, but i dont have a single "copyrighted" music or video and will never get one. still cnet is obsessed with this and gives 2 minus points for players that dont have this very useful function.

oh they mention mpeg 1/2 support as a plus... they must have made some thorough testing... the A2 does NOT support these formats right now.

motion JPEG - any PMP supports this?

It's no review, it's a preview. And apart from the usual Cnet-bullshit, the outlook at the end of the preview looks quite positive.

I'm sure they forgot the "it's not even remotely endorsed by Apple and plus the iPod isn't very popular in Korea because people have sense over there and have bought better mp3 players so we're giving it a crappy review oh here comes the Apple rep again I'd better get ready" bit.

Who cares what Cnet thinks? Although it shocks me that Cowon didn't include DRM 10 support. (Didn't they learn from the X5?)

Anyway, we all know that if Apple ever comes out with an actual PVP, Cnet will be all over it.

I never made any purchase decision based on Cnet review. I learned to distrust their reviews a few years ago. Either it worthless or unhelpful, missing details and now biased.
avsforum is much more valuable and trustful.

I find the user opinions more helpful on Cnet than the actual review from Cnet itself. Although a lot of times there are too many posts from either fanboys or haters (who don't even own the product). You have to sift through the bs reviews and find the legitimate ones.

It's better to get a review from someone who has actually owned the product for several weeks or months because all of the features or bugs will be exposed by then. Having some Cnet guy look at the unit for 2 hours isn't going to give you a comprehensive outlook on the device.

... Having some Cnet guy look at the unit for 2 hours...

I hate Cnet, a bunch of monkey who know too little and only know how to ask money for marketing campaign.

Seriously, I don't know how much money they got from other companies (bribes) and they are not been fair for lots good products. It's all about publicity and marketing... it's so sad that such company ruins a great product.
