Hi again,
still not 100% sure how this works.
Under my music folder I now created one level of folders with the different music style (rock, pop, rap,...) and for each of these categories I created sub-folder for each artist (and the songs are then put under these artist folders). For me this equates to directories and sub-directories.
Can I now set boundaries to limit the shuffle function to my music categories (directory) or to artists (sub-directory) ?
At the moment in both set ups (directory and sub-directory) the limit is apparently the artists and when I set the boundary to 'single, all tracks of my X5 are played in shuffle mode. Shuffle within a music category doesn't work.

Sorry for this long question, I would very much appreciate any advise.

Ok heres the deal.....the icons next to the battery indicator tells you what mode you are in....
1 - single
A- All
F - Dir (Directory)
S- SubDir (subdirectory)

If you want to play from lets say "metal" directory...browse to that folder..center click and selct "play now"... if it displays "s" then you will play all songs from the sub-directories in that directory, ect. The same thing works for all directories. I have my record button (rec-long) set to be "boundary/shuffle" for i can toggle the 1,A,F,S on the fly. Play around with it and you will figure it out.

Does the subdirectory mode search multiple subdirectories or only single subdirectories? ie. if the folder structure is:

metal > artist > album > track.

If you click "play now" on the "metal' folder in S mode will it search for files in the 'artist', 'album' and 'track' folders or only the 'artist' folder? I don't own an X5 so I can't test this myself.

I just tried it, if you have it in 'S' and 'shuffle' mode and tell it to play the metal folder then it will play anything from 'metal', 'artist', 'album' and so on. If it's not in shuffle mode it will go through all the tracks in the root of the metal folder, then move into the first subfolder and do the same thing (any tracks in the root, then move into the first subfolder) until it runs out of tracks, then do the next subfolder and so on.
