Ok, I know I can get audiobooks on mp3 from audible and homemade stuff.
here is my question.

When using the book mark feature is there a way to auto-bookmark a file? Meaning if I am listing to a book and immediately shut the unit off, it will bookmark the place, so I don't have to worry if I forget to actually create a manual bookmark?

Is this the best and only way to listen to audiobooks etc?

I don't see an audible version for Iaudio....so I don't know of another way....

Thanks for the insight.

That's one of the basic features of the X5. It auto-resumes a track at the point where you left off after you power it back on.

How easy is it to create a bookmark? Is it a one button operation? I read the manual but since I don't have an X5 in my hands now, I am kinda lost on the process.

Thanks

You can set it up to automatically set a bookmark when you hold down REC for a few seconds, which is what I have mine setup to do -- works great.

Creating bookmarks is easy. Just go to the root of the file screen and select the bookmark folder then click "Add Current."

Hi DeathtoToasters,
I'm also an audiobook person. Mp3 formatted books are not a problem for playback, but I can't get the X5 to play .aa files (the lame proprietary format ala audible). Have you figured something out? Tech support told me that they do not and never will (the guy was barely kidding) support that format.
So, if you have a solution, I'd love to hear about it.
Thank you!

Joanie,

I don't even have a player yet. So I don't have any ideas otherwise then what was mentioned here.

I think I am going to get the A2 when it comes out. So I don't know what it is going to do either.

Sorry I cannot be more help.

If .aa files are really important to you, I'd reconsider getting something from iaudio. They really don't plan on striking a deal with audible for a while (if ever).

Good luck! The A2 looks very cool.

I have not used Audible in a while but they used to have an option of downloading the file in MP3 format. If you do that, then technically it should work fine right?
With the same bookmarking abilities.

Audible only supplies books in .aa format and the X5 does not support it. I have talked to Cowon about it and they don't care and Audible is even less service-oriented.

Download the audible books in .aa format, then use Goldwave (goldwave.com) to do batch converts from .aa to .ogg or .mp3. Its easy, though it takes a few hours to do a whole book, so you have to plan ahead.

BTW, AudibleManager installs the .aa codec on your computer, and Goldwave uses that to understand the book files. So be sure to have AudibleManager installed.

It only takes about 15 minutes to load, break into 3-5 minute "chapters" and convert to MP3 for a 10-hour Audible file on an XP2400 or P4 2.4 Ghz

"a few hours"...? What are you using? A DX2 66 486?
