Hmm, someone once told me that the X5 could read the tags off of a FLAC file; however, all of my files have tags and yet the player still displays the filename. What gives?

Hmm.

Do the tags display while playing? I can only see the tags when playing the song, not when browsing. Yes, the X5 does support FLAC tags. I used 'abcde' to rip my FLAC files from cd (it tagged them, as well.)

Did you adjust the display to show Id3 tags instead of filenames?

slag[]: Maybe it was because I had the factory standard firmware. I just loaded the beta 5 firmware, so I will try it out here in a bit.

Thanks for the reply. I'll let you know how everything goes.

Hm, no luck yet. I wonder why it's not working on my unit.

There are id3v1 and id3v2 tags (and probably more). could it be using the wrong one? Just making random guesses here

No, I think that is a valid stab at the problem. For your information, BirdFish, I am using id3v2. And again, the tags only show when playing the particular song (have to actually press play for the tag to load.) It displays a "face" icon with the artist title next to it, a "cd" with the album title next to it, and the filetype icon with the song title next to it.

I am using v2.10b4-e firmware. To set up the id3 tag display, I went to:

Menu->
Settings->
Display->
Song Title->
(x) ID3 Tag

I hope you get it working!

Hey slag[] I'll check it out later tonight, no time right now. But could you tell me what program you're using to tag your files? I was using mp3Tag (because it said that it did flac tags as well.

Aha, thanks for all of the input guys. I wasn't pressing the "play" button, rather just playing the file. It is in fact working. :)
