View Full Version : What is the best software for managing your music library with an i9?

Hello All!
I am new to this forum, so please bear with me please [blush]
I have a brand new i9, and am confused as to what is the best software to use for loading (and deleting) music files from the player. I really don't have any interest in playing video, so maybe that can make the answer a little easier. . .at any rate I'm only interested in playing music files (I have both flac and very high-bitrate mp3 music files, but will most likely just play the mp3 since I can fit more of them on my 8gb player) [yes]
So far, using MediaMonkey I was able to load my player. However, I have not yet figured out how to remove or edit files using either MM, or any other tool which I have tried as of yet (i.e. --- WinAmp, etc). . .
Thanks for any help you can provide.
BTW, I find that the Cowon software I downloaded from their website is quite useless, and not very user-friendly at all (no offense to anyone who thinks otherwise, though).
Thanks!!
PS --- Also, on a sidenote, I have noticed that pretty much none of my album art seems to be associated with music files on my i9 (very frustrating), and also, I sure would like to know how to enable and select from different screensaver options. Too bad the instructions were nearly completely written in Korean. . .who knows, maybe if they had actually been in a language I can read and speak, I might not need to be posting in this thread [blink]
BTW, I also have no idea HOW to enable any of the playback options such as shuffle and repeat --- Can someone please [help]!!!!!
Thank you very much :D !!

I can't believe that 43 people who apparently have no idea what I'm talking about have already viewed this post, and not one of them has known the answer to this question.
Let me ask you, do you all have the same question that I have. . .or is it just too much a waste of your time to post a response?
I don't own an i9 and consequently can't comment on it specifically as you seem to desire.
I'd suggest posting to the Media Software forum if you can deal with responses that would be more generalized. For that matter there may already be threads there that speak to your concerns.

OK, thanks. I'll look into that.

Haven't been around much lately, been busy with other stuffs ... hope it's not to late to throw in my 2 cents ~_-
I drag and drop tunes to my i9 as I connect in MSC mode so no need for software. To manage my music lists I use mediamonkey but not the latest version as there are issues with it and I only use it for management. To play music on my pc’s I use foobar2k and winamp. To convert to lower bit rates (ie from flac to 192vbr) I use foobar2k, hope that helps.
To display AA on mine, I have all the art imbedded and it works fine.

Hey I appreciate that very much. I agree with you about the issues with the current edition of MediaMonkey. I just removed MM from my laptop last night (I wouldn't know how to revert back to an older edition if my life depended on it --- unless it has something to do with performing a System Restore --- which I doubt, but anyway. . .)
I am now using iTunes to manage my music library, like i used to do because it is the most user-friendly system IMHO --- with two main drawbacks though, namely that it doesn't support FLAC (but that's small potatoes, really), and the obvious drawback being that Apple basically only really allows you to synch files to and from their own devices.
But I have found a way around all of that. I have found that using the appropriate USB mode setting (which I think is MSC), I can drag and drop files into my i9 directly from my iTunes library. You just have to drop the files directly into the folder labeled "MUSIC" (minus the quotations, of course). So far I have found that the major issue with this method is that I don't always get album art associated with song tracks and albums. But it sounds like you may already have touched on the answer to this. . .so if it's not too much trouble, could you possibly explain what I would need to do in order to imbed my AA into my music files?
Thanks, I appreciate it very much (oh, also I need to know if my method will allow me to transfer Playlists over to my i9 --- I'll probably try experimenting with this later today or this evening).
Thanks Again!!

EDIT: I found one which seems to work pretty well, actually:
EmbediTunesArtwork.zip

I use a free program mp3tag (http://www.mp3tag.de/en/) to imbed AA into the files and I also use it to correct tags after ripping if needed. Sorry I can't help with playlists, I always listen to albums and AFAIK playlists work best in MTP mode which I don't use.
im not sure about syncing with MM as i use it only to organise and edit tags, i always copy and paste my files into the player due to habit.
but ive had some issues before with files being greyed out in MM and kinda uneditable\playable.
that problem has a very easy fix, so.. are the files greyed out?
as for album art in itunes ...cover art can be saved to the folder which contains the music files, or it can be included in the mp3 tag as part of the mp3 (imo thats preferable for a number of reasons).
itunes only stores the images directly to the album folder, and for them to work with your device they either need to be named cover.jpg and placed in the album folder or you can download the unnoficial itunes addon that embed's the art into the files themselves, i'ts got a simple name like itunes album art plugin or something similar. if you google it you'll find it easily enough.
also im using the current version of MM, i found the previous versions screwed my files up very badly, i wont ever use it to batch convert files again.
(consider my 10,000 songs that appeared to convert correctly but then i found while playing any one song it was a patchwork of multiple files, and with no backup....nice).
that was a multi-core batch convert fail ><
but as a tagging and sorting tool it works very well.

I was using the free edition of MM, and what was happening was the albums weren't being "greyed" out, necessarily. . .they were being blacked-out, instead [thumbdwn][confused][unsure][shocked][mad] [cry] (if this makes any sense) --- but only certain ones were being affected like this, others appeared just fine, like they always did. It seemed to be an intermittent issue.
I don't know, I just find it easier to import music files into iTunes than it has been with other programs like MM. . .I suppose its just what one is used to :)[yes][cool]
Thanks!!
oook doom to all files, i get it ><
and yeah, whatever floats yer boat :)
MM almost turned me to itunes at one point i can tell ya, if it wasnt for the mildly unnecessary hatred i have for them i would have :D
MediaMonkey works quit welll for me.
