I recently added new music to my X7 (the 2nd time I have added music to it) and it is stuck in Updating Database mode. It has been like this for 24 hours...the batteries ran out, so I plugged it in. It charged back up and is still in this mode. I have pressed the power button in and held it for upwards of 30 seconds, hoping it would reset. I've also pressed the center button (M) a few times, but that hasn't helped either.

Can someone please advise?

PS- Some months ago, I updated the firmware to version 1.08, so that version has been on the X7 for awhile now, and it was working fine. Adding new music to it has apparently messed it up.

Thanks.

Have you tried pressing the 'Reset' button?

Open up the bottom flap where you connect the USB cable - next to it there is a small circullar hole (not the rectangular one). It is just large enough to fit the end of a paper-clip - press this in and it should reset the unit.

I had the same problem and could do nothing but to reformat the player and add the entire 80 gb music again.[sad]

probably just a corrupted music file or a badly formatted one, need to remove the recently added files and then re-add them in small batches so you can find the culprit.

Had the same problems, bud seem to have solved them ...
Bought the X7 as an replacement for my old M3 (dec.2005), which suffered a crashed HD. It was delivered last saturday (jan.2012). Choice was simple: no ipod, max space.[yes]

Because I expected no problems, I kept no log. But.
Started with copying a few music files, no problem. Mostly mp3 files, Win7. Then I started to bulldozer the bulk of my music tot the device ... took big steps. The first 80-90GB in one go, no problems. The second go (30-40GB) ended in a failure: the device got lost in the notorious 'updating database' mode. Patience is no solution; left it for ca. 12 hours. [blink]

After reading a few threads, I decided to go for it and use the 'reset' button. Normally I'd use such a rescue opportunity only in panic situations. Although Cowon states in the Quick Guide (p5), and in the .pdf User's Guide, that using it doen no harm...

It took several attempts, but I noticed that the time the X7 took tot recover from 'reset', became less every time. After every Reset, I tried tot copy music to the X7, in small batches (500MB max). After the 6th attempt, the X7 got the idea, and now it is filled to the brim. Let the music begin....[rolleyes]

The 'updating megadata' also occurred several times, but only for short times.
