View Full Version : Blank, grey screen & No response from computer/J3 with USB

Alright, so I think I must hold the record for bricking (I think..) something within 20 minutes of getting it.

I just got my J3 from Amazon, and the first thing I did after installing the latest firmware and loading my music was to install Lynx/Sense/Leaf.
Each time I unplugged the J3 from the computer, I always made sure to safely remove it.

The J3 was working fine until I installed Lynx/Sense/Leaf. When I turned it on, it seemed to be normal, showing the screen you are meant to see when you first install Lynx. I then went to settings and was having a look around when it flicked to show this blank grey screen (with small dots 'indented').

I tried to turn the J3 on/off, didn't work. Pressing the reset button did nothing either. I then tried to plug it into my computer, but there was zero response from the J3 and the computer (i.e. not even showing a message saying 'device not recognised'/usb plugging noise... just no response whatsoever).

So right now, the screen is still frozen and switched on showing the grey screen.

Any help or suggestions on what to do next would be greatly appreciated, thank you!

You should try the instructions posted in this (http://iaudiophile.net/forums/showthread.php?t=37160) thread.
Hopefully that will fix everything.

I tried doing that, but when I plug it in whilst holding the play/pause button, there is no response at all (doesn't show up as "unknown Device" in Device Manager) from the computer.

Before you start using TccTool, make sure you pressed the reset button properly. It will make a low click-noise when pressed, otherwise it doesn't do anything.
Also, you should try it multiple times as it sometimes doesn't work on the first press.

BTW, feel free to check out Cheetah and Penguin. These are the successors of Lynx and Sense and are a lot faster than their predecessors. The amazing speed is demonstrated in the video in the first post.

I did forcefully jam an unfolded paperclip onto the reset button in anger multiple times haha.

But good news, I decided to press the reset button WHILST holding down the power button, and my J3 reset itself! Weird.

Everything seems to be alright now. Thanks for the suggestions anyway! (:

Oh, I must have missed that. I'll definitely check out Cheetah and Penguin. Thanks very much for creating these beautiful UCIs, Kizune!

Hehe, I'm glad your problem is solved (although the power button usually doesn't have any effect when you reset your device^^). :)
